The Summertime Madness Book Tag

Hey guys!

I’m desperately clinging onto the remaining 7 days of my summer, so I feel this was the best time to do this tag. Thanks to the amazing Amy @ Curiouser and Curiouser for tagging me. Again, I’ve tried to pick different answers to keep it interesting!

Here we go!
1) Show a book with a summery cover.

Doesn’t this look so summery and lovely? Ahhhh. It’s so bright and welcoming. It makes me think of the amazing views I had on holiday this year.

2) Pick a fictional place that would be the perfect destination for a summer holiday.

The land of Oz sounds sooooo good. I’d love to go here and meet all the characters and hop, skip and jump down the yellow brick road. Sounds amazing.

3) Youโ€™re about to go on a flight for your summer holidays but you want to read a book that lasts the whole flight. What novella do you choose?

I bought this book yesterday after hearing so much about it. I feel embarrassed that I’ve never read this book before. I will definitely be reading this next.

4) You have a case of summertime sadness what book do you pick to shine a smile on your face?

This book is pure magic. It’s one of my favourites. The characters are believable, the plot is incredibly strong and easy to follow. Aunt Ada Doom is one of my favourite novels of all time. Flora is brilliant at trying to bring the family into the 20th century as well. A brilliant book.

5) Youโ€™re sitting at the beach all aloneโ€ฆ Which fictional character would be your beach babe?

Definitely Gatsby! I’m really a little bit in love with him I think. Or, for someone different, Clym from The Return of the Native. I was so sad when he went blind. I wanted to take care of him and Eustacia really annoyed me because she was so selfish.

6) To match your ice cream you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidekick do you pick?

Before I’m predictable, I’m going to refrain from saying Harry/Ron/Hermoine. BUT I would pick Neville Longbottom. He’s such a babe and always turns out to be useful and good to have around.

7) Share the Summertime Happiness! Who do you tag?

I’m really lost at who has done what tag, so I’m going to tag some of my new followers. Please feel free to take part, or ignore if you’re busy or if you’ve done before!

  6. Hope you’ve had a good summer! It’s strange because it’s winter here but of course I still enjoyed reading this, it’s made me look forward to summer reading.
Oz would be an amazing place for anytime of the year lets be honest! And yay I hope you enjoy Perks when you read it, it’s definitely a relatable high school read.
I wish Harry Potter characters were my besties especially during summer break (but yeah, the actor who plays Neville didn’t turn out too bad ;))

    • Awww I love chatting with you Liam! You’re just lovely. I can’t believe it’s your winter. Is it cold? Mind you our summer isn’t amazingly warm currently. Rain all day! Well if it’s ever made possible, we will go to Oz! It would be amazing!! X

      • Thank you! The pleasure is all mine ๐Ÿ™‚
Actually, we’re just getting out of the coldest winter we’ve had for 30 years or something so that’s interesting. But our summers can get up to 40+ degrees (Celsius, in case you’re looking at that figure extremely confused haha).
I’ll make sure to pack my ruby slippers!!

Summer sounds amazing. Australia is soooo far away though. I can’t imagine going which is sad ๐Ÿ˜ฆ x

Haha :)! I’m not too bad with the cold, but I am more of an Autumn person. Summer is too hot here…
But never say never to Australia, it’s really very lovely and you never know. I went to England last year and absolutely loved it, you just have to get over those two long flights!

      • You really confused me for a minute because you’ve included my comment! Haha I was sat here thinking I swear I wrote that! I bet summer is amazing, but I can’t imagine having a bbq for Christmas! It’s all about my turkey dinner haha. Mmm I’m a bit scared of flying, which is silly I know! Where did you come to in England? X

        Like

      • Oops! Haha that would have been a bit strange!
Oh I don’t know anyone who actually has a BBQ for Christmas, I mean, there might be some people but I think that’s more of a stereotype. I could be wrong but I know I have an amazing Turkey dinner too. I’m a bit anxious about flying too but I managed at the thought of the places I’d visit.
In England I went to London, Bath, Oxford, Wawrick and Cambridge. I think that’s it!

      • Warwick is right by my family home in Stratford! That’s amazing! Mm I know people who have done it, but I imagine you’re right about it being a stereotype.
I haven’t flown for a few years and I think that’s made it worse! X

      • Oh that’s awesome! That area is absolutely stunning. Beautiful old buildings are such a contrast to Australia (which of course is a relatively new country). We were thinking of stopping through Stratford, now I’m sad I missed the opportunity ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Those people who had a barbecue must be crazy to miss out on the tasty Turkey and pudding!
Have you travelled overseas at all?

        Like

      • Awww I’m so pleased you liked it. I’m sure there’s other opportunities. Yeah I’ve been mainly to Europe – Paris, Munich, Boppard in Germany, Rhodes, and I worked in Cyprus for a bit after going on holiday for 10 years running! Not a lot of places, but a few. I’m luckier than some. I’m trying to convince people to come to New York with me for a weekend to do Christmas shopping… It’s not going too well.
I love Christmas. It’s coming around so fast. I can’t believe it.
        Have you travelled far? X

        Like

      • I definitely hope there’s another chance to go.
I’ve been to Paris too! It’s lovely there. I’d also really love to go to Germany, the history and culture is amazing.
Ooh how did you find Cyprus? What work did you do?
I hope your friends go with you to New York, it’s the perfect place to do shopping and probably my favourite place on earth overall.
I’ve been to America twice, England, France and Italy and no place really matched New York. I want to go back!!
Yay! I’m so excited for Christmas too!

      • Never say never, as you said! Aww I enjoyed Germany so so much. Paris was my favourite. I just jumped on a plane and went. It was amazing. I really want to go back. Ahhh you’ve been to all the far away places. I wish I was a bit braver really.
Well I worked in a hotel in Protaras. It was so so beautiful. I worked at the front of house so I got to meet lots of interesting people. There were a few conversations about marriage and trading me with camels. Not awkward at all! Haha. You’ll have to tell me what your Christmas is like. We can compare notes haha! I’m so sad aren’t I?! X

Sorry for taking a while to respond, I had class.
I love travelling and exploring new countries of interest but yes I get really anxious about it too. You’ve just got to push through and think of the benefits and good times.
Hmm marriage! That certainly is a difficult scenario to be in. Hopefully you were getting traded for a decent amount of camels at least! ๐Ÿ˜€
Christmas is probably quite similar. We get up and open presents as a family. We go for a champagne late-breakfast and lunch with one side of the family and then dinner with the other side of the family. Usually, despite it being summer, it’s not that hot yet. January’s our heat-wave month.
How about yours? What’s it like?

      • Bless that’s sweet. Don’t worry. It’s a tad weird reading what I put back but no worries! Haha.

I guess you’re right. The only thing to fear is fear itself, right? Maybe. If I ever end up there I’ll let you know.
Mm it wasn’t actually. My parents just want rid of me but I always come back. Much to their joy! Ohhh that does sound brilliant. I’m excited about Christmas. Eeek. Well, we wake up, have a glass of champagne, open presents whilst the turkey is cooking, then visit my grandparents, then home to eat lunch and then we watch the Queen’s speech and there’s usually some napping involved in the afternoon. Ohhh I did not know that! It usually rains at Christmas, although I do remember when I was much younger having snow at Christmas which was super magical. But year, now it’s usually rain. Typical Britain! X

      • Haha I’m sure your parents are delighted to see you at Christmas! How far away are your grandparents? Are your parents still in Stratford?
Oh I didn’t realise there was a Queen’s Christmas speech (great commonwealth country over here lol), what’s that like?
I wish we had snow here, it’s the only thing missing at Christmas, otherwise I love the holiday here. *sings I’m dreaming of a white Christmas*. That’s funny, I’ve heard (granted, from a movie) that it rains almost 200 days out of the year. Is that true?
I’m exhausted after the day is over. An afternoon nap would be nice ๐Ÿ™‚

        Like

      • Mm I’m not too sure about that! Well my mum and dad live in Stratford and my grandparents live near Solihull so they are quite close together which is nice. Haha yep on Christmas Day at about 3pm the Queen delivers a speech from the palace. Bless her. It’s just basically a summary of the year and advice for the future I guess. She’s always dressed up to bless her.
It’s soooo cold today. So much for summer. You’re day was over as mine was beginning! Can’t believe it ๐Ÿ™‚ how was your day? X

      • Oh that’s lovely, not far to go at all. Hmm I’ll have to watch a Queen’s speech now. Maybe there will be one on YouTube. Do you enjoy watching them or is it just something you do because of tradition?
Well seeing as though it took me so long to get a chance to respond I’ll just say today (it’s around 4 in the afternoon) went very well thank you. I have quite a bit of work to do but I’m a huge procrastinator (one of many things I don’t like about myself :)) Also, since spring began three days ago, we’ve had nothing but sunny skies. Talk about the bipolar weather Melbourne is known for! England and Australia have their seasons mixed up haha!

      • This was last years! This year she will comment on Princess Charlotte and the fact that from September 9th 2015, she will be the longest serving queen ever, knocking Queen Victoria off that perch.

We just watch it because it’s always been a tradition in my family. My mum isn’t too fussed but my dad a,ways requests “silence so we can listen” haha.

It’s morning here and the sun is shining!!! I can’t believe it. What work are you doing currently? I’ve got a few bits to do today myself actually.

Awww wow blue skies – it just sounds so amazing. I’m really not jealous at all much! X

      • Well that wasn’t too bad, it seems as though she talks on a certain theme each time. But the message was quite nice. Buckingham palace is so grand!
Princess Charlotte is so cute and so is the little Prince. Seeing all the people who camped out outside the hospital was very funny!Yes, I heard that Elizabeth was about to reach that milestone. Will that be a cause of big celebration over there?
Yay, shining sun! It’s strange how it’s only morning over there, it feels as though I’m in the future!
Oh I’ve got to write a creative piece based on Shakespeare’s Othello but I’m almost finished now. What are you doing today?
Yes, spring has sprung here ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I’m hungry so I’ve got to get lunch and I’m off to visit my grandma and then going to mooch about Stratford. I only have a few days left till I heard back to the North ready to start my new job at an all boys school. Super scary! X

      • I love that wedding dress, I remember watching it float down the aisle. Even here that was rather a big deal. I’m sure the dress was even better in person!

Hope you enjoyed your lunch and that your grandma’s going well! Ooh new job! I go to an all boys school. We’re not too bad if you get past the inappropriate jokes. I’m sure you’ll be great ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, street parties, sounds like a lot of fun!
I’m so jealous, I want to go to a fancy lunch. Was that for a special occasion or for a catch-up?
Weekend today for me! I’m doing a whole ‘lotta nothing. I’m probably going to bake something, continue working on that literature assignment, work on the blog maybe, read.
*sigh* I’m so boring. What do you have planned for the weekend?

      • Well we worked out that we’ve been friends for like 15 years! Which is insane. So whenever I’m back home from work we hang out and have lunch.
Oh what are you baking? I love baking but I leave that to my grandma over the holiday. She’s way better than me.
Of course! It’s 22:41 here so I’ve no idea what time it is in Australia!
You’re not boring. You’re lovely to chat to ๐Ÿ™‚ well tomorrow I’m off to visit Charlecote Park which is beautiful and for tea out somewhere and then on Sunday I’m driving the 153 miles back to my flat ready for work on Monday. Eeek. Sorry I feel like I’ve bombarded you with comments!

It’s 7:53 am here (why, oh why, do I have to wake up so early).
Saturday sounds like a lot of fun for you, Sunday on the other hand… I hope you’ve got some good music to listen to!

Ohhh tricky that is! You could make a cheesecake of some sort or a caramel slice or a cherry tray bake of some sort! Maybe.
I don’t mind driving… It ticks by alright as long as there’s not a lot of traffic.
Oh my days as if it’s Father’s Day! It’s June in England. I’m learning so much from you ๐Ÿ™‚ is Halloween a big thing in Australia? X

        Like

      • Haha thank you!
That’s so cute, I want it to be like that for me too.
It is a bit difficult, but those suggestions are really good. I was thinking a slice type thing also. I’ll have to comb through recipe websites!
I find driving a bit boring without something to listen to. I really like travelling by train though. I like seeing the buildings, parks or whatever go past, usually while listening to music. I find it really relaxing. That was really random, I’m sorry!
Yes, I remember waking up in June and seeing all of these Father’s Day things on social media and being really confused like ‘Did I sleep for three months?’ Alas, I don’t know why it’s different.
Yes I’m learning things too, it’s interesting haha! No Halloween is not really a thing here, actually you’re seen as ‘uncool’ almost if you go out trick-or-treating here. How about England?

        Like

      • Hope that website helped! Sorry for the slow reply. Today was really busy but great. The great packing challenge begins! I love trains! It’s always good fun because you get to see sooooo much. Mmm that’s super interesting about Halloween. It’s not a massive thing in Stratford, but it seems to be a big thing in the north. How strange! I never bothered with it though. I put all my energy into Christmas. Hope you had a good day today/yesterday. Super confused about the time difference! X

        Like

      • Yes, I made the caramel slice off that website. It’s very sweet! But my family seemed to enjoy it. Hope the packing is going well.
Hmm that is a bit strange about Halloween, I think all of Australia would rather save celebrations for Christmas, it’s the best holiday by far! Today is Father’s Day so we’re going out to see my grandparents after we spend time with our dad of course. Should be lots of food and drink which is exciting haha!
I know right?! It’s like one comment a day because when you’re sleeping I’m waking up. I think it’s something like a 9 hour difference. Enjoy your drive tomorrow!

Father’s Day was splendid. Yes there was lots of yummy food consumed but it was nice to sit down with the extended family again. Probably just another boring week for me haha! And the rain has returned ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

What is it actually that you do there? Are the students nice? I wish it was Autumn here, it’s my favourite season. I baked again today, I classic chocolate cake, hopefully its eatable ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Aww don’t worry. How’s it going? Well it’s been sooo busy but really good! I’m really enjoying it. I’m an English teacher so I have a pretty busy timetable (80%) and all the resources from my previous school are rubbish now because the national curriculum and the GCSE specifications have all changed so I’m having to make things from scratch which takes a long time! The students (all boys) seem lovely. A few that are testing me at the moment but I’ll try and win them over! Ohh I haven’t baked for months. I don’t think I’ll ever get time again! Well it sure feels like that at the minute anyway. How’s school? What have you been doing there?

        Like

      • That’s great, I’m glad you’re enjoying it! English is my favourite subject. I’ve thought about being a teacher. What grades do you teach?
It sounds like a busy time. It sucks that you have to start doing things on the new curriculum, that’s happening here too but I’m sure if you’re enjoying it it won’t be too much of a hassle ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m glad the students are treating you well, you’ll have to whip the troublemakers into shape haha!
School is busy but yeah, winding down because of holidays soon. We have in-class essays and final tests coming up which is annoying. Hopefully this next week will fly.
What are you studying in English at the moment?

        Like

      • It was always my favourite subject too, and what I was best at as well. Well we don’t have grades here, we have primary and secondary. So, primary is little kids from 4-11 years old. I teach secondary which is 11-16 year olds. It’s great. I love it.
You’re totally right as well. Because I’m enjoying it, I don’t mind working late to get jobs done.
Currently, what are you studying? What holiday do you get next week?
At the moment I’m teaching: grammar and writing skills, Face the play, To Kill A Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet and Of Mice and Men. Different year groups are doing different things and I teach all year groups so I have to plan for all these books and stuff! Year 11 (final year before college) are looking at English language exam skills.
I’m so happy my school haven’t scrapped American Lit though, even though the government have removed it from all the exam syllabuses.
Have a great Sunday and a great week next week!

        Like

      • Yes English is probably the subject I perform best at too.
We have primary and secondary too, but no grades?! How do separate people who are say, 12 from 15 year olds.
I’m glad you’re loving it so much.
In English, we’re currently doing Romeo and Juliet, we’ve also done To Kill A Mockingbird and an Australian film called ‘One Night The Moon’.
Next week is just a two week September break. So we get 2 months in summer (December and January), two weeks for Easter, three weeks in the middle of the year (Juneish, yes Australians start school in January not July) and now we’re getting the September break.
I’ve never heard of Face the play, what’s that? Obviously we’re studying similar things then. But yuck! I hated Of Mice and Men, we did it last year.
Our final year is year 12 here. We’re doing exam and writing skills too.
What do you do in American Lit apart from TKAM and OMAM?
        Thank you, you too!

        Like

      • Happy Tuesday! Or is it Wednesday in Australia now?
Well we have years instead of grades so like the primary goes from year 1-6. And then secondary goes from 7-11. Then college/6th form is year 12-13.
Sorry if I haven’t explained that too well!
Romeo and Juliet is hard because it’s been done to death, so it’s hard to make it fun and exciting. My year 11s just keep talking about the film Gnomeo and Juliet that came out a couple of years ago here. Nightmare!
Ohhh wow that’s so cool! Have an amazing holiday. What are your plans?
I didn’t know about Face either until last week. It’s based on a book but basically the main character Martin, ends up in a car accident and the car catches fire and he ends up with facial burns at the age of 15. It’s about how his life changes. It’s quite good. The boys seem to be enjoying it at school, despite it being so sensitive.
The only American lit we do is OMAM and TKAM. Unfortunately Gatsby is an A level text. Boo!
        Hope you’ve good pal ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Goodness, I’m so sorry. Time got away on me. It’s Saturday here now! It was very nice waking up this morning with holidays on the horizon.
Right I get you now, yes we use the word grade and year a bit interchangeably here. Our secondary goes until year 12, otherwise it’s pretty much the same.
I’m not sure if you meant that Romeo and Juliet pun about it being done to death but it made me laugh anyway! Haha Gnomeo and Juliet, doesn’t that have a happy ending? Yeah, definitely not Shakespeare..In other English news, we just started Lord Of The Flies, do you do that in England? I haven’t started reading it yet (guilty face) but it’s apparently very good.
I don’t really have any plans for my holidays. Just relaxing mostly I guess. I’m really worn out.
Face sounds really good, maybe I’ll have to give it a go. It sort of sounds like Wonder or Making Faces. I’m glad people are enjoying it!
I still haven’t read The Great Gatsby but I do want to. We might do it later at school, who knows with the curriculum changes.
Any other school news since my long-time reply? Any plans for the weekend?
Hope you’ve had a good week!

Anyway! Ugh I refuse to watch Gnomeo and Juliet. If they write it in their exam I will cry. But, I’m sure they are joking because they are like A* kids. Did you have grades like that in Australia or is it different?

Yep Lord of the Flies is a huge text in England. It’s also on all the new GCSE Literature specifications. You’ll find loads of info about it online as well. It’s a very boy orientated novel!

I need to read the novel Face, but the play adaptation is absolutely brilliant. Again, boy orientated, but I enjoyed it and I’m loving teaching it. I’m sure you’ll find a free copy online somewhere?!

Rated Gatsby. I love it. Also, (you may have seen) but I’ve just finished The Girl on the Train. That was pretty good as well. I need to read Gone Girl but I can’t take too many thrillers all at once!

Well it’s a Saturday night here so it’s all about the factor tonight and then planning tomorrow for next week. I’m having coffee and cake with a friend tomorrow which will be lovely and I did a lot of shopping today. I annoyed myself though because normally I hate waking up and it’s like a massive struggle. Today I woke up at 6:50. YUCK.

What have you been reading/doing? X

      • Same with you!
Haha that would make for interesting essay reading, unless it’s a comparative question. Probably joking though ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
If the asterisk stands for a + then yes we have grades like that too. Your school is obviously very intelligent then.
So many books I need to read here. For some reason I’m not looking forward to reading Lord Of The Flies. Did you get the same way when you had to read for school?
I’ll find a version of Face online to watch, thanks!
Ooh I want to read The Girl On The Train. My mum read it and didn’t love it so it has sort of the same feel as Gone Girl I guess. The skeptics and the imaginations. I liked Gone Girl’s story but not really the writing but I hope you enjoy!
What is ‘the factor’ that you were doing on Saturday night? I guess one bad side to being a teacher is that even when you’re home you’re still busy with school. Sunday sounds like a nice relaxing day, what kind of shopping?
Same with me! I’m not used to holidays yet so I keep waking up at 7:00 and the like. *sigh* and then just when you’re used to waking up later school will start again!
Well on Saturday, I stayed at home and read Saga. Have you heard of that? It’s a graphic novel series. My first ever experience with one actually but my friend wanted me to read them. They’re a bit of fun. Aside from that I helped mum with cooking because today (Sunday) my sister has a dancing concert and the family is coming for lunch beforehand, so that will be most of my day.
Really random question: Have you heard of or do you watch the show Last Tango In Halifax?

      • I’m learning so much from you! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
My school is a good school yes, but it has its problems like any other! What’s yours like?
You might like LOTF. It’s very masculine and very ‘boy orientated’. My school have chosen it as one of their GCSE texts actually. I was always the same because there’s always pressure and pressure reading isn’t much fun! Let me know how you get on with it.
I really enjoyed The Girl on the Train. Haha you can read my review and see if you like it ๐Ÿ˜‰ haha.
The X factor is this singing talent show that’s massive here in the UK. Do you have an Australian version? It’s boot camp tonight. Super exciting!
I managed to do all my planning for this week which is a relief! Hope your holiday has started well! You deserve to have a good rest!
I was buying a birthday present for my mum. It’s really stressful because there’s nothing she wants and she’s fussy! She’s hard to buy for. But, I’m better at buying for girls than boys.
I’ve never heard of Saga or that show you mentioned. I better get on google and get some knowledge.
It sounds like you have a massive family! Is that the case?
        Have a super Sunday!

      • Haha it’s like a world relations group!
My school is also quite an intelligent school, we always rank highly during ATAR times (the grades that can get you into university). Otherwise I would say that we are generally a good school however out ‘problem’ as you say is tackling big issues like mental health or bullying. But that’s another story.
Same with me with pressured reading. And then I start to question whether if I’d picked it up of my own accord would I be giving this book 2 stars or whatever the rating is and I get disappointed. Hopefully it’s a different story this time!
I’ll get right on your review!
Ooohhh X factor, sorry you left out the X in the message so I was wracking my brains for ‘the factor’. Yes that’s quite big here too but I don’t watch it I’m afraid despite my love for music. Australia has really crap television on the whole, do you get a lot of cooking shows over there? They’re everywhere here, so annoying!
Holiday is going well so far, the concert was a lot of fun yesterday and lunch was lovely! I’m glad you’ve finished the school planning, I hope you (enjoy or have enjoyed) your tea and cake!
Ugh birthday presents are the worst probably because I leave it to the last minute so it’s a stressful rush to find something! Happy birthday to your mum anyway!
Oh I only mentioned the show because it’s English and I really love it at the moment, you don’t have to research, just thought you may have heard of it ๐Ÿ™‚ What other shows do you watch?
My family isn’t too large. I have three grandparents, 10 aunties and uncles and 17 cousins. But my close family I have 5 people including me. How about yours?

      • Also in response to your detailed and thoughtful comment!!! Sorry I posted my other one too soon.
Ohhh dear. Every school has their issues I guess. It’s how the staff deal with them that’s important.
Sorry for my typos! I’m clearly fairly useless. Sorry again!
Ohhh we have LOADS of crap TV shows. We have an awesome show called Gogglebox though. It’s hilarious. You should YouTube a clip. It’s a show of people’s reactions to TV shows. Even my nan l loves it haha. We also have a lot of cooking shows. They seems to be on all the time. We get master chef a lot as well. Also we have a lot of like reality TV shows. Have you heard of the only way is Essex. Dear god. It’s awful. But lots of people like it. So I guess it’s down to personal preference.
About my family, well it’s pretty small, and not many of us get on. Haha. So yeah. Mainly it’s my mum, dad and me. Mu grandparents as well and then a couple of aunts and uncles who are fairly useless and I don’t really speak to!
How’s the holiday been? Have you done much? Hope you’ve had a good one anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

      • It’s okay, life’s busy!
The staff aren’t too bad but they could do more. Is your school religious or secular?
I’m glad we’re not the only ones! However recently Australia has been ‘complaining’ about not getting TV shows faster from the US so hopefully good TV will be coming soon.
We have Gogglebox too though I’ve never watched it, I’ll watch the first episode and see what I think ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not a fan of reality TV in general and cooking shows do my head in! No, I’ve never heard of the only way is Essex. Sounds like I should be grateful haha!
We have a funny show here called Utopia that’s about the incompetency of the Australian government at getting anything done and it’s really funny but it probably wouldn’t make as much sense to a foreigner. Sounds boring but it’s done really cleverly. Otherwise, I usually watch TV on the computer.
That’s a shame about your family but at least you’ve got your grandparents, I don’t know where I’d be without mine!
The holiday has been really lazy. I’m so boring, I literally sit at home and watch movies or read. Have you watched any good movies recently? I need some suggestions. I went out with friends to a movie and just a general city go-about and that was really fun. But I’m home only with my dad because my sisters and mum are all away. I feel like I’m wasting the two weeks away.
What are you doing this weekend? What have you been reading?

      • Hello love!
I was having some major technical issues on my blog yesterday.. Likes weren’t available or something so I was really stressed about that. It seems to be ok now. It was happening to a few people I think so it’s just a bit annoying.
Well it’s not a religious school, but because of its links to the merchant navy we do go to church but it’s not very often. In fact the first church service is the 11th October. I’m excited to see what it’s like. I know the boys march there. Every morning we start the day with parade so we raise the flag. It’s really impressive actually. What about your school?
Ohhh I have something on in the background all the time. But, I’m not very quick on releases of new films and stuff like that. Ive recently watched the Sherlock Holmes films because I’ve been using them in lessons. I’ve started watching the Friends box set again as well. Love friends so much.
My weekend has been good thanks, lots of eating. Had pancakes yesterday. It was blooming lovely. Today I’ve been planning lessons for next week. Boring.
I’m reading a really good book at the minute, but it’s really sad. It’s called The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz. It’s a true story and it’s so moving. We are approaching Dickens weather so I will be reading some of him soon I hope. What about you?

        Like

      • Hi again!
Yes I’ve been having the same technical difficulties, I thought everyone had deserted the Internet haha!
Oh, what does a tie to the merchant navy mean? I’ve never heard of something like that. We’re a catholic school (though I’m not) so we go to church quite often and get taught religion. But we never have to march, that sounds serious.
Ooh I love Friends too but I’ve never marathoned, I just turn it on when it’s on the TV. Would you recommend the Sherlock Holmes movies? I watched a really good one yesterday called The Intouchables, it’s a French film (I study French) and had a really sweet story.
Yay, I love pancakes haha! It seems like we both have those boring days. (It’s funny when English people say blooming, I love it ๐Ÿ™‚ But you have lots of funny slang and swear words it was very entertaining when I visited) .
I’m assuming that Dickens weather is Winter then? I just finished Throne of Glass due to popularity in the book world, it was quite good. But now I have to read Frankenstein for my literature class and start writing an essay, yuck! I hope I enjoy the book at least. Have you read it?

        Like

      • Ohh do you think it’s fixed now? I thought I’d offended everyone in the internet world. It was scary!!
Ok so basically my school was founded in 1737 and it was a place for the sons of the dads who were in the merchant navy. Over the years it became a school where you could train to be in the navy. So now we still do maritime studies but with all the other subjects as well. We have parade every morning and the boys have marching practice. We also get to meet and have sherry with the brethren. They are all old captains of different ships and the head of the charity linked to the school too. It’s a complicated history but it’s absolutely fascinating.
Yes you must watch the Sherlock Holmes movies. They are really clever and funny too. Robert Downey Junior is brilliant. Ohhhh I didn’t know about that. It sounds really interesting. I will check it out on my good friend Google.
How’s your day been? Reading/watching/doing anything good? Or another boring but satisfying day?
What Australian sayings are there? I’m trying to think but my mind is failing me!
Yes it sure is. I like to read Dickens around Christmas time as well. I’m not too sure why, but it just seems so fitting. Probably because there’s always lengthy descriptions of log fires and cold weather.
Ohhh Frankenstein is great. You’ll like it. It’s a strange book but it’s quite cleverly written. Let me know how you get on. I’m teaching this at some point so let me know if I can help ๐Ÿ™‚

        Like

      • Yes my blog has been fixed, I’ve been getting like notifications again, thank goodness. Has yours?
That’s an old school and what an interesting history! Does everyone do maritime studies or is it an elective? Is there a specific purpose for the daily parade? That’s awesome how you meet the old ship captains. Our history is nowhere near as interesting as that, I guess because we’re a relatively new country, well, in terms of white settlement.
I’ll see if I can find a copy of those movies somewhere , I do like Robert D Jnr.
My day just started but so far it’s been the same old. I’ve moved on to the second Throne of Glass book and am about halfway through but I’m happy because I’ve had so much time to read. I’ve also been trying to search for more music to listen to (something I always need more of) because I’ve felt a bit the same recently. Otherwise I’ve been watching lots of YouTube videos haha!
The AFL (Australian Rules Football) Grand Final is coming up this weekend so that sort of takes over Victoria (where I live) in particular but lots of Australians get involved. I’ll be going to a friend’s house for that. I’m not a huge fan but it’s still nice to get involved for the day.
Oh lordy, Australian sayings are 90% rude probably. G’day/mate is a stereotypical one. I will say that Victoria is probably the most civilised of the states (I’m not a snob I promise) so we don’t really say anything like that much. You’re more likely to get that language in the western and northern states. But when I was in England I loved the colloquial language haha!
I’ve only read one Dickens novel, I’ve tried to get into his stuff but I don’t know, it’s veeerry slow. I hope I enjoy Frankenstein, I’ll let you know, thanks!
Sorry for the super long message..How’s the school week so far?

      • Yeah it has thank god! I was really concerned I’d offended everyone haha. So you can get back to liking everything now ๐Ÿ™‚
Yeah my school is really interesting. I’m still learning new things every day. Everyone does it and we also teach things like sailing as well. It’s really amazing. When I learn more I’ll tell you all about it. The boys do parade every morning because we raise the flag and we give the boys different notices and awards as well. People on the street always stop and watch. There’s no other school like it. It’s that special. The school is really over subscribed as well. There’s 120 spaces in year 7, but last year over 400 boys applied. It’s fascinating really.
I’m glad you’ve and lots of time to read. It’s always nice when that happens! I’m thrilled you’re making time for yourself on your holiday!
Ohhhh I’ve no idea what that is. You’ll have to explain, if you please? I know absolutely nothing about sport sooooo yeah. It’s always nice to feel a part of something with a good atmosphere. It’s hull fair soon, so I’m going with my friends. We go to eat haha.
Hahaa Victoria sounds lovely actually. I wish I wasn’t too afraid of flying to visit there!
Ohhh which Dickens novel is this? To be honest I haven’t read that many. My friend has a challenge where he reads a different Dickens novel every Christmas holiday. I’m assuming you’ve read A Christmas Carol?
Frankenstein is alright – just a bit weird. I feel sorry for him really but let me know what you think!
I love long messages! Thanks for spending your time talking to me. I’m sure you have plenty of other interesting things to do other than talk to me!
My week is good so far thanks. It’s long though! Tomorrow is our Year 6 open evening so I’ll be at work for a very long time, until around half 8 tomorrow night. So I teach all day and then I need to speak to people. Ughhhhhh.
        How about you?

      • That’s good news about your blog, yes I’d thought I’d done the same thing!
That’s fascinating! But what if you realise you don’t really have an interest in sailing or maritime studies, can you drop the subject or is it compulsory all the way through? I think I’d be pretty terrible at sailing. Is the parade just around the school grounds? It sort of just sounds like our weekly assembly except with more formalities. How many people attend your school? Ours has about 1,800.
Oh don’t worry, sport and I don’t really get along either. The only one I have an interest in is tennis. Um AFL is basically similar to rugby. You have a ball shaped like a 3D oval (it’s weird) and your aim is to kick it through two posts. There’s tackling and it’s quite fast paced. Like I said, it’s more of a Victorian thing but there are teams from all over the country. I personally don’t really watch it but my dad is a huge fan!
Oooh what does hull fair entail? An excuse to eat? Sounds like my sort of fair!
Victoria is pretty great. It’s more of a liveable place than tourist destination but nevertheless quite beautiful. What’s your favourite place in England?
You’d presume correctly, A Christmas Carol. I tried to read Oliver Twist and couldn’t do it! I can see where the season love comes from, very warm but wintery.
Me too! Long messages are great. But trust me I really have nothing more interesting to do (boring me ๐Ÿ™‚ ), I always wake up to a lovely message and it’s great!
Is open evening where prospective year 6 parents come to see the school? Sounds like a long day!

      • Hello lovely!
I’m so sorry. I’ve had a mental couple of days.
Well if the boys realise they aren’t into it they can opt out. There’s room in their timetables to do other things. It’s really cool actually. Yep parade is on the school playground and it’s just like assembly but we have those as well.
My school is tiny compared to yours, but we are going through a phased expansion. There’s currently 400 students. It’s a real family atmosphere actually. Your school sounds massive!! I’d be scared that there’s always someone I don’t know.
I’m terrible at sport too. My dads been making me watch the rugby World Cup and I’ve no idea what is a happening or who is who. I love tennis. Wimbledon is a massive thing in England. It’s brilliant. I’d love to go but it’s always during school time ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Basically Hull Fair is massive. There’s loads of different food stalls and sweet stalls as well as all kinds of rides. It’s a brilliant atmosphere. I just go for that really. I know that sounds silly. I’m not a massive fan of huge rides as well. I’m a bit of a whimp. It affects my head too much and makes me feel so sick so I try to stick to things on ground level. Do you have fairs in Victoria? If you do, what are they like?
Mmm I love London. It’s just a fascinating place. But for me, Stratford will always be home. It just feels all warm and snug there for me. It’s the place I always fun back too. I like being by the seaside though as well actually.
To be honest I know what you mean about Oliver Twist. It’s not how I remember it at all but I guess the memorable bits are repeated all the time. I remember when I was reading it again I was just thinking I don’t remember this bit, or even this bit. Haha. Nevermind.
Yeah so lots of primary school boys came with their parents 180 people passed through the doors! I was at school for a good 13 hours. It was a super long day. What was amazing was that my mum and dad came to visit on Friday and they got into hull for when I finished work which was such a nice feeling. We had a great day for my mums birthday and today we went to Beverley which is a pretty little town and we’ve eaten loads. I do like seeing them. I’m quite close to my mum and dad. They’ve just left to get home. They have a long drive ahead! 153 miles!
How’s your weekend going so far? Do you have another week left of your holiday? X

      • Hi again!
The amount of students at my school is spread across four different campuses so it’s not too crowded. I think I know everyone in my year level at school but I wouldn’t know many from other year levels. But yeah, we too have a bit of a community aspect going on. It’s nice.
Oh rugby, I wouldn’t know the first thing about it. But I heard Australia just knocked England out, apologies to your dad! They say that Melbourne is the sporting capital of the southern hemisphere so not the best place for those who don’t love sport. I looooove Wimbledon! I stayed up (because of the time difference) to watch it and I was so excited when Serena Williams won four in a row. I’m a big fan. I go to the Australian Open sometimes, its ridiculously hot! Sometimes above 38!
Oooh Hull Fair sounds amazing. I love sweet and cake stalls! Me neither, I’m not a huge fan of rides. I have really sensitive motion sickness, its a burden haha!
We have the Royal Melbourne show that just recently ended but I don’t go. I’ve heard its lovely albeit expensive. Mainly the same stuff is there, craft shops and games and rides. Sometimes stand-up shows.
London is amazing! Take me back! ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish I’d gone to Stratford, maybe next time.
I guess Oliver was a struggle for me because I love the movie and musical so I guess I was expecting a faster pace.
Yeah, that sounds like our Open Day, it’s quite a big deal and a lot of students show up on the weekend to help show people around or perform. It sounds like such an exhausting day though, I hope you’ve recovered and that you had a good time with your family!
Well, yesterday was the Grand Final that I was telling you about so my family (mum, dad, two sisters) went to a friend’s house for a barbecue lunch and early dinner type thing. It was really nice to catch up with people I hadn’t seen for ages and to gather around with everyone to watch the game, even if you aren’t that interested. It was a lot of fun and the food was delicious! My family and I are quite close too especially when we extend it out with people like our friends, we’re like one big one!
Unfortunately, no, today is my last day, tomorrow is back to school.*cries* (Time to start that holiday homework that teachers know students don’t do until Sunday night haha!) I’m really interested to know your thoughts on student excuses for not doing homework or like, if you punish for not doing it etc? Do you have detentions and the like? Do you have parent/teacher interviews or conferences too? What are those like from a teacher perspective?
What are you doing for the weekend?

        Like

      • Ahhh there’s a couple of schools in hull which are split sites. I know teachers have to drive between the sites between lessons which is bizarre. I couldn’t be doing with that at all. It seems weird to me. No offence! I’m sure it’s nice though being slightly separated. It’s just because I’m not used to it. It makes perfect sense though with that many students. What year are you in? I should day grade shouldn’t I? Haha sorry. I get confused.
Yeah my dad was none too happy. Thanks Australia. Haha! I don’t understand rugby at all. They are just massive guys with a weird shaped ball to me who all run diagonally which I don’t get either. I’d get dizzy. I used to play netball when I was little, but what girl didn’t? I’d much rather watch sport. We are big formula 1 fans in my family too. I’ve watched it since I was little. I don’t get how men can fit into such little gaps. Crazy really. Everyone’s mad on Lewis Hamilton at the moment but I think he’s a big cry baby. I actually can’t stand him.
I loooove Tennis. I’ve got a proper soft spot for Federer as well bless him. The men are incredibly talented. I can’t stand Andy Murray though. He’s another cry baby. I’m not being very nice about the English sportsmen but there we are.
I’ll take some pictures at the fair for you! I need some anyway for teaching descriptive writing. It’s always useful because all the kids go. That can be a blessing or a curse, but for me I love seeing all my old students. Bless them.
Come back to London! I will of course show you around Stratford too. My best friend and I are off to see Peter Pan and Wendy in January at the RSC in Stratford. Very exciting.
I’m so thrilled you had such a good weekend with your family. I did too. It was so good. I hope you enjoyed your holiday as well. I’ve got three weeks to go until half term. A week off then. Woo.
Haha well I’m quite lucky in a way because I’m not too much older than our oldest students. So, I tend to be a bit more sympathetic because I can still remember what I was like! But generally yes we have to set homework (at least one piece a week) and I’m terrible at it. I’m getting better though. At my old school homework was never done so I never bothered. I know that’s terrible! Like I say, I’m better now. So the boys get 20 minute lunch time detention if they don’t complete homework. If they fail to turn up to that they get 40 minutes with the head. It’s quite a strict school because of the maritime links I was telling you about. We are always contacting parents, and the pastoral teams are too in case there are any problems or issues at home. Sadly, this is a daily thing in hull. Something is usually kicking off in someone’s home. It’s sad. At my old school as well a number of the students were primary carers for their mums and dads. It makes me so sad knowing what some people go through. School and teachers are sometimes the only consistent thing they have in their live. Is it similar in aus? I guess it depends on the area.
We have parents evening as well and we analyse a lot of data and send that home too. So if someone is really under performing then everyone knows about it essentially. I quite like them because I like to know what people are like. I have had parents evening where the parents have come in their nightwear and slippers. It was a bit awkward. Again though I try to be sympathetic because I remember being so scared at my parents evenings. I’m honest really. That’s what counts. If a kid is doing my head in then the parents get to know.
So it’s Sunday night now. I’ve spent today planning for next week and I went out for hot chocolate and cake with my friend which was lovely. Back to work tomorrow! What about you? Did you get your homework sorted?

      • Yes we have four (but really three) different sites. An early learning centre which is pre-school and then a junior school which is Prep-6, a high school which is years 7-8 and 10-12 and a campus for year 9 which we separate because our school has this philosophy that that is the developmental year and they go on special camps and city outings and stuff. But luckily three of those campuses are built around each other and are really easy to travel between (not that I think many teachers do by the way, maybe the music teachers though?) Don’t worry grade and year are interchangeable, I’m in year 10, your second to last year level?
I have no idea about rugby either, all of your confusion applies to me too! That win was a bit of a surprise for us though. As well as tennis, I play hockey (field not ice, not sure what Britain’s stance on that is haha!) for a school team but I don’t really follow it. I used to play a lot more but then realised sports weren’t really my thing.
Ooh formula 1 is scary, I’d be holding my breath the entire time. Too fast and dangerous for me, but I’d imagine quite an intense sport to participate in.
Tennis is great! I love Federer too, phenomenal shots he makes sometimes! Haha some people in Australia say Murray looks like a horse because his mouth can open so wide. Not a huge fan either. But I can’t say much for the Australian players. Did you hear about the Australian Kyrgios at Wimbledon and the antics he carried on with? What an embarrassment!
Ooh I’d love to see the pictures! The fair sounds lovely! Descriptive writing prompts, I remember that all too well.
I will return as soon as I can, I’d love to see more of the smaller towns and such. I will, of course, return the favour should you ever overcome your fear and come to Melbourne!
Ooh sounds nice, I love Peter Pan the movie. Are you a regular at the theatre? I can’t say I am, but I adore musicals! Do you like them?
Wait a minute, did you say you have holidays in the middle of the term? I’m so jealous!! I’m happy ’cause this term is really short and I’ll be finished school for the year at the end of November.
Yay, I love sympathetic teachers ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, for me anyway, for people who can’t make half-decent excuses it’s funny to see the disbelief on the teacher’s face. Goodness, only one piece a week, take me to your school. Though I’d imagine it’s a significantly large piece. My English teacher rarely sets homework unless it’s reading though. We are told to do 2 hours or homework a night but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who does that much! That’s similar to us, depending on the severity of the teacher. Though twice forgetting results in 20 minutes after school, not showing guarantees you a Friday afternoon detention which can be an hour. And you thought your school was strict!
That’s really great that the school develops strong school-home relationships but sad about those families. It’s definitely the same in the poorer areas of Melbourne, especially for people without as much support but I’m privileged enough to live and go to school in wealthy suburbs. However, our school has lots of initiatives and fundraisers to help around the city and other schools which is great!
Parent pyjama party? Very strange and not something I’d like to see. Do you have to send mid-term-semester reports home or just end of year ones where you have a file of the students progress and grades? Our teachers always complain about how much work they are.
Sounds like a lovely Sunday afternoon. I never realised how much planning teachers do! My first day back at school went quickly. I had an early morning for orchestra (did you/do you play an instrument?) then normal classes. I had a double period of maths which was torture but luckily no boring assembly. I also had double English where we finished watching LOTF and started reading and analysing it. I got all my homework done thanks!
What classes did you teach today? Also, what is your school timetable like, how many periods, what timeframes? Hope you had a nice day ๐Ÿ™‚ (Sorry for the ridiculously long message again)

      • To be honest I think it’s a general view that year 9 is an important year. It’s also the year that tends to have the most problems. I know at the minute year 9 are causing the problems at my school!
Awww year 10. Yep that’s our second to last year. I feel for our year 10s nationally at the minute because of all the changes to the GCSEs. Also changing from letters to numbers is just awful. I can’t get my head around it at all. Never mind! I’ll get used to it. No doubt it will change again in a few years time. Is it changing in aus? Do you get grades or numbers?
Ohhh well congrats to your country on the rugby, England is pretty gutted haha! Ohhh wow! I used to have to play that at school but I was terrible. Also my friend smacked another friend in the mouth. Blood everywhere. That kinda ruined it for me. I love formula 1. It’s probably the only time I’ll get masculine points haha. It’s the adrenaline I think.
Oh my gosh yes I forgot about Kyrgios! He was upsetting a lot of people. You know England with our stiff upper lip and all! He was so horrible to a ball girl. Bless her. The French open was also pretty amazing this year.
I’m off to the fair on Saturday so I’ll show you after then ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m looking forward to it. The only thing is all the kids go for the week it’s here (a lot miss school as well because they work on the fair – mental!) I see my old students sometimes and it’s just amazing to see them. The new students are lovely but I haven’t really seen them outside of school yet so that will be interesting.
Well if you’re 16-25 then tickets are only ยฃ5 which is amazing. They can be quite expensive. I used to go all the time, but it’s less frequent now. It really depends what’s on as well. Hamlet is in the next season so I will definitely be going to see that. It’s my favourite. Oh gosh I love musicals! I like to sing along and they are just amazing. I need to see more! Blood Brothers is a musical and I’m teaching that to year 10 at the moment for the literature course. They HATE it being a musical “miss why do they have to sing all the time?!” Is a regular feature. To irritate them I make them sing. It is HILarious. Or I sing at them. They are a bottom set though so they find it quite difficult. What’s your favourite musical? Have you seen many?
Haha yes we have half terms. Usually because at this point we are exhausted. It splits up the term quite nicely though. I can’t wait for a week off. 2 Monday’s to go!!
Mmm I’m just terrible at setting homework and marking homework and remembering that homework exists really. I’m sure I’ll get pulled up on it at some point. Oops. I rarely did my homework and I turned out alright! I’m not sure how much of a legitimate excuse that is though! Haha. One of my strengths I think is my relationships with students. I work hard to get to know all the students and get them on side. I hate it if a kid doesn’t like me. I know that sounds really stupid! Aww that sounds so lovely. I love doing good deeds like that. It’s always good to help others.
Oh gosh yes it was awful but I know it won’t be like that at my new school. We send reports every term to years 10 and 11 but not in KS3 (7,8,9) because they have a tutor report at the end of the year. As a tutor to 30 year 7s I am overjoyed about writing all of these later in the year… What about you? Do you get reports a lot?
Ohhh that sounds like a really nice way to start the week. I used to play the clarinet when I was younger but gave it up. I wish I was talented! What about you?
Well Monday and Tuesday are my less busy days. Yesterday I had year 9 first and we carried on with TKAM. Then I had year 10 and we were looking at language devices and how they are used for effect. Then I had year 11 and we are analysing the language and context of Romeo and Juliet. Then I had year 8 and we are reading Face the play. I think I’ve told you about it before. Then I had 2 free periods. BLISS. We have 6 lessons a day, of 50 minutes each. 2 then break, 2 then lunch and then 2 and home. School starts at 8:45 for the boys and they leave at 3:15. Not too bad really. Staff have a morning meeting at half 8 and some times after school we have meetings till 4:30. We have chapel tomorrow so the day is all jumbled. Also the boys (and staff) are at school on Sunday because we have Sunday service so they will march from school through town to the church and back again. It links back to our merchant navy tradition. I’m excited actually because I’ve never really experienced an ethos like this. It’s really fascinating! Unfortunately I’m on an 80% timetable (it’s mental) so I only have 4 free periods a week. They usually get swallowed up in meetings and marking. Yawn. What’s your school day like?
Hope you’ve had another good day. Thanks for your messages. They are a highlight of my day ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Sorry, I’m still alive ๐Ÿ™‚ Really busy first week back at school. How are you going?
I liked year 9 a lot because of the extra stuff we did like go out to the city. We have ATAR here which is a number score out of 100 (though it’s impossible to get 100) and it’s a combination of all your subjects. Not looking forward to year 12 and all of that!
And yes, our curriculum is changing a bit too. Subjects are adding units and taking away others. Hopefully it’ll all be sorted by the time I’m introduced to it all.
Oh god, that hockey story sounds horrible. Nothing like that has happened in our team luckily. I hope your friend forgave the other!
Wimbledon really cracked down this year about colour and stuff but your stiff lip was fine by me. Kyrgios was disgraceful, it was a big deal over here. He was recently taken off our Davis Cup team. I loved this year for tennis (you know about me and Serena Williams, she had a ripper year) but I was literally so sad after her loss at the US Open. The pressure must have been unbearable. But I’m super pumped for the Australian Open, I love going!
Wow the fair sounds like a huge deal if people miss school to work. Would you have gone by the time you get this message, it’s Saturday here now? Anyway, photos, photos, photos haha!
It sounds like so much fun, I’m jealous. Hope you enjoyed yourself. Tell me everything!
ยฃ5?! Cheap as chips! Any theatre thing here would be $50+ for sure. I’ve never read or seen Hamlet but I’m dying too. My parents (and now you) have given it rave reviews! How was the show that you went to see with your friend? Did you have a good time?
Musicals are amazing. I’ve seen quite a few and of course, I love all the classic ones. But I’m waiting out on the chance to see Wicked again, I loved it so much.
I can relate. Our English class did an Australian film/musical called One Night The Moon and everyone was groaning on about the singing, but I quite enjoyed it. Our teacher never made us sing (genius plan by the way) but everyone was asking those questions “why can’t they just say what they feel instead of singing?”
Mmm relationships with students are super important, well for me anyway, I couldn’t say that for all year 10 boys. I think it goes a long way to get to know your students. One of my teachers still doesn’t even know my name. It’s a bit sad really.
Haha your comment made me think of my friend who, if a teacher displeases him in one tiny way, will dislike them forever. Lucky you’re not his teacher.
Report writing is one thing that makes me not want to become a teacher but I think it’d be kind of fun to be a tutor. We get progress reports in terms one and three and a large one at the end of the year with teacher comments and grades etc.
Waking up at 5:50 might make you want to change your mind haha! Oh my god clarinet is the instrument I play! I also play piano and flute too but those are more just for fun.
Literally your whole day sounds like my curriculum. Language devices, TKAM, Romeo and Juliet. Our days sound similar except I have seven periods. Three, recess, two, lunch, two, home. All about 45 to 50 minutes as well. We start ten minutes earlier but finish at the same time as you.
Oh how was chapel? And do you have school every Sunday or was that just a one off?
I’m excited for this week because I have a French excursion to a restaurant where you have to speak French the entire time. It’s going to be so fun with friends and food. Anything exciting for you this week? Your week sounds so busy, poor thing!
Aww your messages always make my day too. Hope you had a good day ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hey!!
Oh that’s ok don’t worry. I’m really snowed under this weekend. My school attended Sunday service today. My goodness I was so proud. The boys marched through town and we had a drum core at the front which was very impressive. It was really amazing to see. People were lining the streets to see the boys. Wow.
Was aus really embarrassed by Kyrgios then? To be honest he was in a lot of our papers for all the wrong reasons. I was pleased when he got knocked out. He didn’t deserve success at Wimbledon with that attitude.
When is the Australian open? I wonder if we get coverage of it in England. I bet it’s when I’m at work though! You’ll have to keep me updated. ๐Ÿ™‚ if you please.
Well I read your message yesterday morning when I woke up, spent the day marking (managed to mark a couple of sets) then went at 7pm. Would you believe me if I told you it took me 40 minutes to go two miles to the fair? It was horrendously busy. It took us an hour to walk down the road in which the fair is on, and it was just a mass of people. We didn’t move. It wasn’t too nice to be honest. Eventually it broke up a bit and we went on this game where you had to add up to 21 to win a big prize. Bless my friends. One of them got 21 so they gave it to me. I picked a large unicorn from Despicable Me. Have you seen that film? Two years ago I won a big minion on the same thing. It’s like tradition now I think! Sadly, I couldn’t take any pictures because someone would have stolen my phone. Also, you wouldn’t have seen anything other than people’s heads. Someone took a picture of the crowd. I wasn’t best pleased to be on that tbh. However, because I failed, if you google hull fair and look at the images you’ll see it. I’m hoping to go back but I can’t promise! I’m annoyed as well because I wanted some pics for next half term as we are doing writing skills.
Hamlet is amazing. You must must read and see it. I think it’s one of Shakey’s best works. It gets me every time. It’s difficult though – it’s an A level text in England. Haven’t been to see it yet – it’s in January. However, Stratford and the theatre get so busy you have to book early. I saw Wicked. Oh my days I loved it. We should go!!
As if one of your teachers doesn’t know your name. That’s just awful. Tbh I still get students mixed up. For some reason, I’m teaching a lot of twins at the moment! I can’t tell them apart so they let me call them twins. Haha. It helps, but I do feel a bit bad.
        At least it’s not intentional.
Report writing is a tiny part, but I guess it is time consuming. Like planning and marking. That’s why I don’t get people who just do it for the money. It’s actually really challenging and it takes over your life a bit.
Aww clearly you’re a talented musical man! Well done you. I didn’t keep it up which makes me feel a bit disappointed in myself, but again it’s quite time consuming. You need to sacrifice a lot to be a musician I think. I couldn’t juggle everything. Do you want to do something with music when you’re older? Sorry that sounded a bit patronising but you know what I mean, I hope!
Ohhh your French excursion sounds brilliant!! I learnt German but I so wish I could speak French. I love Paris. I just wish I could have communicated with people better when I was there! However, your trip sounds so good. Let me know how it goes! Teach me French?
Not too much excitement happening this week I think! Year 11 parents evening. That’s about it! What about you? Did you have a good weekend?
        Take care x

      • God, again! Sorry, time gets away from you.
Wow, your Sunday service sounds like quite a spectacle! Very impressive.
Yes, generally I think people found it quite shameful. You can’t represent your country and act like that. He was in the papers here too.
The Australian Open is held in late January so still a little while to go. We’re on school summer holidays at that point so it’s pretty much all I do during that time. I can’t wait!
Oh the fair sounds so great but very busy obviously. Two miles in 40 minutes…gridlock! I love busy fairs like that, is this one an annual affair? Oh that’s sweet. Yes of course I’ve seen Despicable Me, the little girl is so cute โค
Aw that's a shame, I would have loved to see pictures. Better to be safe than sorry though. You'll have to find some other inspiration for writing skills. I looked at some images. Wow it seems huge, there are so many rides! And the lights-gorgeous. Did you end up going back?
Hamlet may be one of our year 12 texts too, maybe I'll get to it then. Otherwise, yes I hope to read it. Maybe in a few years.
Yay! I love Wicked so much, I have the whole soundtrack on my iPod. When I visited London I almost went to see it but because my family is largish it would have cost a fortune. So sadly I had to be content with Melbourne.
I think that particular teacher is a bit of a business-like guy as he just gets on with it, no personal stuff. I don't like it but I guess I can't change it.
I used to have twins in one of my classes and they used to play tricks on the teacher and get them confused. I don't think it was a coincidence when one got moved to a different Religion class next semester.
I'd really like to teach. Sadly, in Australia it's not a profession taken as seriously as I think it is. To get in you only need a 60 something ATAR (out of 100) and their pay is quite low. But if it's your passion I guess you can't let that stop you.
My maths teacher is the best marker ever. He marks tests overnight and has the results up on the portal by 8 o'clock the same day you sit it. I love it because my personal peeve is teachers who take weeks to mark. Anyway, I hope you make it through your report writing unscathed haha!
Oh no, I'm not that good. Mainly I just do it for fun. Music will always be a big part of my life but I don't think I'll make it a career.
Damn, I wish I'd learned German haha. We just had the excursion and it was a lot of fun. The food was so delicious and it was so laid back and casual (but still fancy) and you're just surrounded by friends. I loved it! It definitely helps to speak the language in the country (I think the people there respect you giving it a go anyway) Je peux vous enseigner le franรงais!
This weekend, I had to go (on a Saturday) to an athletics competition that the whole school attends to support the athletes. Lots of private schools compete for the trophy as part of a sports program amongst all of them, if that makes sense. Anyway, our school won by over 100 points for five years in a row which caused quite the celebration. There was even chanting on public transport. I felt a bit sorry for the other patrons. Now, I'm not the sporty type and had no idea what was going on but it was nice to have that school pride going on.
I hope the parents evening went smoothly. How was your week and weekend?

      • Liam!!! I’m so sorry. Forgive me. Your message was so long it didn’t come up fully, I was swamped at work and one spent two days with my grandma with paramedics and doctors. I’m so sorry. Forgive me.
How’s everything been? I didn’t go back to the fair. It spent a lot if time being closed for having too many people.
I love Hamlet. It’s on in Stratford next year so I must book tickets. A Midsummer Nights Dream is back on as well. Eek. Have you seen anything or watched anything recently?
I gave the Wicked soundtrack on my iPod too!! I love it. Awww it’s such a shame. You’ll have to sneak over to London and see it! You could do like a musical tour and see how many you could see in like two days.
Aw I think you’d be a great teacher. You seem to value relationships between teachers and students which would make you a great teacher. Ohhh that’s such a shame. No hoe of me moving to teach there then! You should do what you love I think.
You’re clearly so talented. I’m not talented at music really. I sing around the house but that’s about it. I’m having to sing at church to get the boys into it as well. Embarrassing!!
You’re excursion sounds amazing! I’m not jealous at all. I love to immerse myself within a culture like that. You’re right, it’s the best way to learn. Again, you’re talented if you’re such a good linguist!
Anyway, I’m so sorry. I hope to hear from you soon. I’ve missed you!!! Tell me everything ๐Ÿ™‚ x

      • You’re back!! *dance party*
It’s ok, it sounds like you had a lot bigger things to think about. I hope your grandma is ok, it sounds very serious?
Everything has been gradually growing more hectic here. I have exams very soon so preparation is beginning for that. The end of the year is coming so fast! Christmas is just around the corner, yay!
Right now we have the Melbourne Cup long weekend which is two extra no-school days added on to the weekend. Have you heard of the Melbourne Cup? It’s a very famous horse race and lots of internationals come down to see it. Anyway, because of the extra days I’ve caught up with friends and got some study done and been to a party so it’s all very busy.
Otherwise, things are winding down, no more orchestra rehearsals, no more community service. I can smell the Christmas pudding already.
I hope you enjoy the plays whenever they are. In terms of have I watched any recently, no, no plays. I’ve watched a couple of movies though? And personal achievement! Some of them have been scary! I hate scary movies so I’m pretty happy. One was about a couple getting lost in the Canadian woods and getting stalked by a vicious bear and the other, Crimson Peak (I watched with friends) was about ghosts and a haunted house. I quite liked both of them. Do you like scary movies? How was Halloween over there? It’s not really a big deal here, I only got two door knockers.
A musical tour sounds fabulous! I need Wicked to return to Melbourne ASAP.
I know from first hand experience that getting boys to sing (let alone well) is a hard task. I wish you well haha. You made me blush by the way with all the talent praise, thanks for that. But tell me about what your hobbies are or what you’re talented at then I’ll feel better.
I hope everything’s been going well with you and I hope to hear back soon. Tell me everything that’s been going on with you! I missed these messages. Anyway, hope your week has been well (and that you’re not too busy). ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hey lovely!!
I’m appreciating the dance party. Thank you haha. I’ve missed you! Sounds silly really but I like your comments ๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah she’s doing a little better. It was a bit scary, but it is when you think you can’t breathe. But things have improved.
Hope you’re exams go well. Let me know if I can help ๐Ÿ™‚
I did see about the Melbourne cup on the paper. It looks great. I’m really allergic to horses so it’s no good for me haha.
Oh boy I’m getting really excited about Christmas. I love it so much.
I’ve just completed my friends box set. I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to watch next! Oh my days you’re braver than me. I’m terrible with anything scary. They give me nightmares and disrupt my poor brain. I just can’t handle it. Halloween was really quiet here. My next door neighbours in Stratford have two little kids and they got all dressed up but I don’t bother. We had zero knocks on the door haha. I’m surprised it’s not a big thing. In the north of England it’s massive. I don’t get why.
The boys had more singing today because it was chapel again. Bless them. They really go for it. The older kids not so much.
Haha I speak the truth! You must be talented to be able to play all those instruments.
Mmmmm I’m not that talented really to be honest. I’m pretty good at English I think! Well I hope. I have just found out that I’m the best marker in my school which is a bit exciting. I guess! My job is my life. I know how lame that is but I just want to be the best teacher I can for my students. I do like being outdoors though, especially in Autumn. Ahhh pretty leaves. I’m about to do a post on this actually ha. What else…hmmmmmm I’ve just realised how utterly boring I am. I’m sorry ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Anyway thank you for forgiving me ๐Ÿ™‚ hope to speak to you soon x

      • Hi again!
That’s so great to hear about your grandmother. Aww that’s not silly, I definitely missed you and your comments too ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks, my first exam is in the 20th and because I like to think of myself of a professional procrastinator I always end up cramming. But this weekend has been good for getting a bit done.
Oh no allergic to horses? I love horse riding whenever I get the chance to. Anyway, I was really happy with the winner this year, I won’t get into the full story but it was heartwarming to see.
Friends is so funny! I can’t say I’ve seen many episodes but the ones I have seen are just entertaining fun. I never know what to watch either but one of my friends is always there to save the day and presents me with USB’s full of different TV shows. He’s trying to push Parks and Recreation on me now. Is Friends your favourite TV show?
Me? Brave? Never! I got scared after watching The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas! Luckily Crimson Peak wasn’t too bad.
Yes it is a bit strange about Halloween. I think it’s becoming a little bit bigger here, probably because of more American influence. I probably would be into it if other people were into it if that makes sense?!
I can’t deal with all my excitement for Christmas. I’m already figuring which books to ask for. Priorities right? But yeah I just love the season so much, especially the ham and turkey. Sadly it’s Summer for Christmas here. *sigh* I’m dreaming of a white Christmas. And now all you lucky people are in Autumn (I loved your Autumn post) and we’re in hayfever filled Spring.
I’m not surprised about the singing. Some people at my school sing stupidly during the hymns.
I’m sure you’re super talented! You aren’t the best marker for nothing. How do they measure that by the way? I think it’s great that your job means so much to you. It’s a really important one.
Hmm the outdoors and I don’t really get along. I swear I’m borderline agoraphobic. But I do love the Autumn time.
Haha we can be boring together!
Hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend! (Oh wait time gap, it’s afternoon Sunday here). Anything going on for you this week? Talk soon ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hey!
I thought of something that makes me less boring! I love food. I need to go on a diet because I’m sooo chunky. But food is awesome. I’m allergic to egg white and fish though and I’m also really fussy. Haha. Are you allergic to anything?
Ohh I have to be in the mood to work. Sometimes I seriously suffer from a case of CBA. I’ll wish you luck nearer the time!
I like horses but I can’t breathe around them. So they don’t like me. Sad times. At the back of my grandmas garden are horses. I give them apples we grow. I’ll have to look into who won. All I heard about was the drunken antics!
Ohhh that’s good about having friends who give you shows to watch. I love the Big Bang theory. For some reason I’m a huge fan of American tv shows. The apprentice is on here in the uk. I love it but I do think that the contestants aren’t that strong this year.
Aww The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas makes me so sad. It literally just breaks my heart.
It’s remembrance here today and it was so emotional. At school we did our own parade and lowered our school flags to half mast. One boy plays the trumpet and we had a drum core. It was just amazing to see. What do you guys do in Australia? We have a big concert on Sunday aired by the BBC which was good and we always watch the queen leading the tributes on the to as well. It’s so emotional though.
I love Christmas. I’ve started my presents which I’m chuffed about. I’ve also bought two super cute snowman canvasses that light up. I’ll have to show you. ADORABLE. I can’t imagine having Christmas in summer. Mind you I’m seriously missing summer at the moment. I’ve lost my voice (but don’t feel ill – yet) it’s so hard teaching when you have no voice. Ughhhh. I suffer with terrible hay fever. I feel your pain.
Ohh I wish I had more talents. But I’m happy with my job so I’ll take it! Basically marking is really important because everything we write has to show how students can improve. This sounds so boring. But, basically I write comments on everything the boys write so they can always extend it and improve work.
Maybe I have another talent but it’s just hiding somewhere. I’ll think hard again about this!
This week is good but busy. Can’t wait for the weekend where I can just sleeeeeeeep. Hopefully. And get some more Christmas presents in. I got myself some new pjs and it has ‘rockin’ robins’ on it with two robins dancing with party hats and drinks. Hahahaaaaa. I bloody loved it.
How’s your week this week? X

      • Hi again, long time no see (or talk) ๏Š
Itโ€™s exam time now so Iโ€™ve been super busy recently (what did I say? Procrastination and I are besties). In fact, I just did the English exam. Iโ€™m not sure how well it went, itโ€™s hard to tell with English sometimes. I guess weโ€™ll find out soon enough.
Oh yes, I remember you were a big help when I was looking for something to make! I loved that slice. I love cooking too, isnโ€™t it so rewarding? I love turning my music on and getting busy in the kitchen. Iโ€™m also really fussy. Especially with vegetables. How about you?
Hmm no meringue for you then, no Australian pavlova either haha. The only thing Iโ€™m allergic to is an ingredient (Iโ€™m not even sure what itโ€™s called) that you can sometimes find in sunscreen. Itโ€™s weird. I get a stinging rash. Aaaanyway.
Oh the drunken antics are so funny for any event. Did you hear about the woman who was dared or something to push over a police officer into the bushes? Hilarious!
Ooh I like The Big Bang Theory also. We just got the Chase in Australia, I believe thatโ€™s a popular British show? Iโ€™m an American Tv Show person too. My friend just gave me a show called Unreal and it was sooo addicting. I watched all ten episodes in one day, no joke! It was about the making of a reality Tv show but a fiction drama if that makes sense?
Anything to do with World Wars just is so devastating. Weโ€™re studying the second one in History now and everything that happened in Japan and China. Some full on stuff.
For some reason we didnโ€™t really do that much here for Remembrance Day, we did the flag and the minute silence, thatโ€™s really all. But our school sold poppies to support soldiers etc who helped in the war. Sounds like a huge deal over there. It is really emotional and makes you reflect on all the things that have seemed hard in your life, sometimes they donโ€™t seem so hard anymore.
Iโ€™ve written my Christmas list! Iโ€™m so excited!! Summer isnโ€™t too bad for Christmas, at least youโ€™re almost guaranteed a nice outdoors-y day.
Aww I hope you havenโ€™t caught anything bad. Get better soon, teaching would be hard with no voice.
Oh I see what you mean about marking now. Yes especially in English I know I really appreciate feedback on essays and stuff.
Iโ€™m sure you do have that hidden talent. Weโ€™ve all just got to take the opportunities that take our fancy to realise them. Has your brainstorming found anything new?
Again, really sorry about how long it took me to respond. Iโ€™m super tired after a day of studying so excuse any mistakes. Oh my God those PJโ€™s sound so funny haha, rock it!
Hope youโ€™re appreciating the weekend after your busy week. Did anything happen of note or is there anything to come soon? Hope to talk soon. I promise Iโ€™ll reply quicker next time.

      • Hey!
How are you? Apologies for the slow reply. Busy busy week at school but it’s all good. Getting tired now but 3 weeks till the holiday.
How did your exams go? All good I hope! I did think of you ๐Ÿ™‚ when do you find out? Let me know how you get on.
I love cooking too. I miss baking so much. I just haven’t had any time. It’s my own fault – I need to make time! 24 hours in a day isn’t enough. I’m fussy with everything I think because I’m allergic to fish and egg white so I can’t have loads of things. I’m sure I’ve told you that before so sorry for boring you again. What’s your favourite vegetable? I love a good sweet potato. Or honey roasted carrots. Mmmmm. I’m really fussy and there’s certain things I’ll only eat seasonally. For example: crumble. I only eat it in winter. It’s too much for summer. Haha I’m realising how ridiculous I sound right now. Please tell me you do things like this? What’s Australian pavlova? Is it like normal pavlova? Mind you Australia pavlova is normal to you. You know what I mean! But I’m struggling to find the words.
It was my old school awards evening on Thursday. It was sooo lovely to see some of my old students. They’ve grown! They are like lamp posts! Bless them!
Ahhh I love TBBT. Recently Amy and Sheldon have been in the press here because apparently they will finally be intimate with one another. Oooooer. Haha the chase is brilliant. I love it but I’m usually at work so miss it! Now we have had a week of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here which is set in Australia. Do you guys get it aired there too? It’s funny. Also it reminds me of you! Anything to do with Australia does haha.
As if it’s nearly December. Do you have any adverts or anything that signifies the start? I’m really strict. I don’t do anything before December 1st. Otherwise it’s just too much and it loses the magic. I’ve no idea what I want! My parents are getting all stressed with me because I don’t know. Hmmmm what would you like?
I’m all better now thank you. It took me a good couple of weeks to get my voice back which was so annoying. I didn’t realise how important it was. I know that’s stupid, but I ended up really missing it. I blame the weather. We had snow last weekend! Horrendous. Haha. It’s much too cold for me. I’m always wrapped up now and look about 10 times bigger than what I am with all the layers I’ve got on.
Anyway, how are you? Have you been doing anything exciting? I’m off home next weekend for Christmas festivities with my family and I’m soooo excited. My mum sent me photos of the lights and it’s soooo pretty. Just one week to get though and a million books to mark. Sounds realistic…
        Speak soon!! X

      • Hello!
I’m well if not quite tired. That’s okay, I’ve made it my mission to respond to this as soon as I’ve read it so I don’t take 10 years like last time!
My exams were a mixed bag but I really hate speculating about how I go, I prefer to just know. But because I’m still not in the last two years at school, subjects are still general so you’re forced to do ones you don’t like (and probably aren’t good at) like maths and science. Aw thank you for thinking of me ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t think I’ll find out until our school presentation ceremony where you receive all your grades for the year and a certificate. It’s happening in a week. It takes place at this really beautiful, big hall in Melbourne which is exciting.
Well now that exams are over, you know what that means…holidays! Until the very end of January! Whoop!! Sorry, I’m a bit excited. Three weeks an we’ll both be on holidays.
Baking’s a lovely little reprieve from stress for me. Plus I love people saying what I make is delicious, it’s very pleasing. Hmm my favourite vegetable would probably be potato or capsicum (do you call them red peppers?) Mmmm honey roasted carrots sounds amazing! Don’t worry, I’m so fussy as well, it drives my mum crazy. I was struggling to find a vegetable I liked before. Hmm I guess I’m sort of a seasonal eater too but I don’t eat cooked fruits at all so I can’t relate about crumble I’m afraid. Oh I don’t really know why I put Australian in there, doesn’t pavlova come from Australia? I’m not sure.
Ugh tell me about it, 24 hours is definitely not enough. It makes you realise how much time you waste sleeping haha!
Oh I almost forgot! Sorry about the tag for the Fall Time Cozy tag. That sounded rude…As soon as I was nominated I thought of you. So I tagged you, checked to see whether you’d done it, seen you had and forgot to remove the tag. Haha I feel a bit silly. Anyway, maybe you could do it twice or just ignore me!
The old school awards evening sounds nice. It would be good and strange for a teacher to have affected so many people and then see them again. Do you ever have favourite students or classes that you get sad about when they leave?
Oh yes I’ve heard about Amy and Sheldon. Cuties haha! I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here is so funny. Yes we’re getting a second season. Does that mean you’re on the first? If so, that season has one of my favourite comedians on it, Joel Creasey. He’s hilarious!
I can’t believe it either! We’ve been getting Christmas adverts since the start of November. My family is the exact same, nothing before the 1st! We might be getting our Christmas tree soon. Are you a real or fake tree person? For me, it wouldn’t be the same without a real tree.
Oh I’m terrible at thinking of gifts. I usually ask for a lot of books. I’ve also asked for a new backpack just for going around the city or whatever with. Who knew those could be so expensive?
Good news about your recovery! I was thinking of you too ๐Ÿ™‚
Here, the weather is starting to really heat up but it’s really sad because they’re saying this will be a bad fire season for Australia which is just devastating. We get terrible fires here. So strange to be thinking at the same time you might be getting snow.
I haven’t really been doing anything exciting but holidays have just started so excitement is on the way. Aww I love Christmas lights. We put in quite a bit of effort. You should send photos of the lights, I’d love to see! Do you have any social media?
Enjoy the Christmas festivities and don’t overwork yourself!
What have you been up to recently? Anything exciting for you? Is Christmas your half year break for school and work?
        Talk soon!

      • Wow speedy reply! I would have replied back but I was just getting into bed.
Another busy day today. Lesson planning and then I went to see the Kenneth Branagh theatre company’s The Winter’s Tale. It was really good. Some amazing actors in it like Dame Judi Dench for example. I’ve had a very theatre focuses week it seems!
        How was your Sunday?
Good luck with the results. Let me know!! I’m sure you’ve done amazingly. Ohhhh it’s similar here. You don’t get to do what you enjoy till you’re post GCSE. Or should I say, drop the subjects you dislike. Ohhh wow that sounds quite exciting! The hall where the awards evening was was all decorated and it was so pretty. I was so happy when I could drop things like maths and science. Bleugh.
Awww holiday!! So lucky! 3 weeks to go for me and ofsted is still looming. We have some busy days coming up at school with mock exams and Christmassy stuff as well. I only get two weeks off but I genuinely can’t wait. It will be good. I hope!
Awww yes. I used to have cake every Friday with my year 11s. I haven’t baked since they left! There’s no time ๐Ÿ˜ฆ send me some cake? Haha.
We grow lots of our own fruit and veg so I just love that. Potatoes are just so good. Capsicum?! Wow. Yes red peppers here. I may Google and double check haha. Why no to cooked fruit? I’ve got a jar of lemon curd and I’m trying to think about what to do with it. Hmmmmm. Have you any ideas?
Ohhh don’t be daft. I tag you for anything and everything. I’ve no idea who has done what and it always takes me ages to get through them. Some I rule out because it’s not my cup of tea but I have the best intentions! I’d never ignore you! Silly.
Haha yes I do have favourites. It’s terrible. We should really but it’s human nature. I cried my eyes out when they left. But my school was closing down as well. So it was a real mixed bag of emotions. I love my new school though. I still keep in touch with my favourites and that is lovely. It really means a lot. It’s nice to know that you’ve made a difference. Do you have any teachers that are your favourites?
I’m a celeb is brilliant, but I think we have different celebrities! We are on like series 15?! It’s a sure sign that Christmas is coming when it’s on. I saw in our paper today that they had to evacuate the camp because of a massive storm. How worrying!
I’m a real tree person! We always go real. My grandparents used to grow and sell them to the whole village. I have such fond memories of this as a child. I love the smell and it just looks much better. In my opinion anyway. My parents are good. They get a real tree ready for when I get home for the holidays and I decorate it. My dad does the lights because I’ve no patience for that haha. Do you have any Christmas rituals like that? On Christmas Eve we do ‘the Christmas Eve run’ where we collect the turkey from the farm and deliver presents and ahhh. I just feel horribly homesick now. Such good memories.
It’s weird to think you guys a will be having serious fires in this season. I think I remember seeing something about this on the news last year. It’s so sad.
I only have Facebook and this. I have to be careful because of my job so I keep my social media-ness to a minimum. What about you?
I’m impressed by your speedy reply! Enjoy Monday ๐Ÿ™‚ talk soon ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Not as speedy this time but I thought I’d reply before I got too lazy. It’s 8:30 pm here.
Oh I love Dame Judi Dench so much, I’m glad you enjoyed your night at the theatre!
Yesterday, I actually went out with friends into the city. We saw the last Hunger Games film together (which I thought ended up being better than the book) and then we had lunch and relaxed in the park, went shopping. All the usual stuff. It was great to catch up. We’re super close so even though we’ve only been off school for four days we wanted to see each other again haha!
I’ve received two exam results back so far. English was one of them. I was pretty happy with my essay scores so that’s good. I also got Religion (ugh) and that went alright too.
I would use the ‘send food’ service all the time. My friends are always asking for some and than I could send some to you too! I just love to do it.
Aww I love home gardens with vegetables and herbs and stuff. My parents are trying to do a similar thing but we don’t really have enough room for anything massive. Mainly herbs and small plants. Send me some vegetables?
You don’t like capsicum? It is kind of random but it’s really sweet.
Why do people have to cook perfectly good fruit? It’s such a drag during Christmas time with pudding and cakes, I usually have to stick with ice cream. I’m not sure why I don’t like it, why change a good thing?
Ooh now lemon curd I will eat. I made a lemon meringue pie the other week, it was so nice. Maybe a slice? Or put it between two layers of a shortcake? That would be lovely! Let me know what you do with it?
It’s sweet that you have favourites. I definitely have favourite teachers, my French teacher this year I was quite sad to say goodbye to. Yes keeping in touch would be so great. Especially if you made a personal impact on them. Very rewarding.
Oh should have thought of that, I only watched the season that had my favourite comedian but it was pretty hilarious. I feel like I ask you questions like this a lot but do you know a show called The Fall. It has Jamie Dornan in it. It’s Irish but you may know it. Anyway my family’s kind of obsessed. It’s sooo creepy though. (Sorry if you don’t!)
YES! Real tree for the win! They’re just so much more atmospheric and well, real. I totally agree. The smell and the look is just Christmas to me. We should be getting ours rather soon I suspect. My sisters and I decorate it together while listening to Christmas music, it’s kind of fun actually. Sounds like a family affair for you too. I love that. It seems like every family has their own little rituals and traditions it’s interesting hearing about them.
Yes the fires are just tragic. But it really is good to see how the people band together to help those in need. Appreciate the snow (if you’re getting any).
Oh right I understand. Haha I’m guilty of staking any of my teachers who have a Facebook account. Their photos are usually funny. But yes they’re very serious about hiring people with a ‘clean footprint’. Well as for myself I only use social media in a bookish way pretty much. My Facebook and one of my Twitter accounts is personal and that’s it. Instagram, another Twitter, my blog, my Goodreads, my Pinterest. All book related. I sound like such a stereotypical teen, glued to all my devices and social media.
Hopefully I can keep replying quickly now that I’m on holidays. How’s your week going so far? Do you have half-year exams? Hope you’re having a great day!

I’m so sorry it’s taken me a week to reply. Forgive me. It’s assessment season so I’ve had MOUNTAINS of marking to do. I’m getting there, slowly.
How are you? Have you heard about your results yet? All good I hope! Let me know. I’ve been thinking of you. Well done for Religion and English. Well deserved ๐Ÿ™‚
I really missed the Hunger Games boat. I’ve never read it, but I do have the books. I really should try and read/see them. Aww it’s sweet that you miss your friends. I went home for the weekend and it was sooooo busy but great. I’ve missed it. It was also the work Christmas party on Friday. I didn’t get home till 2am! I’m not used to this at all. Haha. All in the name of Christmas though!
Are you all ready for Christmas? I wish I was!!
Hah I would sent you vegetables but I’m scared they would be awful when they reach you! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
I’ve googled capsicum. I do like it. Red is my favourite. Green is my least favourite. Haha. Not that you asked!! I kinda understand about the fruit thing, but I really like it. Apple pie? Apple crumble? Do you not like any of these? Awwww.
As to the lemon curd it’s still sitting pretty in my cupboard. Haven’t had any time to make anything. This really saddens me. I could definitely go for a good gingerbread man right now. But, I’m weird because I like it slightly undercooked so it’s a bit gooey.
No idea about The Fall – I’ll check out info on Google.
Awww have you got your tree up? My family are waiting for me but I’ve put a few bits up in my classroom, lights around my desk that kind of thing, and some lanterns in my flat as well as little canvas pictures of the Snowman which light up. Soooo cute.
I search people on Facebook all the time. I’m so nosey. I just like to know what’s going on. I can’t be doing with Twitter. I literally stop at this and Facebook. I would have no idea how to use the others.
I’m so sorry for being slow. Let me know how the festivities are going!

      • Hello again!!!
Oh no sounds like so much work! Marking sounds like the life of a teacher. Keep the holidays in mind, almost there!
I’m really well. I just got back from a two night stay at one of my best friends’ house with two other friends as well. It was so much fun but you could probably imagine how tired I am. Movies and talking and games and eating. The usual.
I haven’t heard about any other exam results. I’m so annoyed that we didn’t have a day more at school where we could collect them and see how we went or ask questions etc. We did have the Presentation ceremony where I received the grades from the semester all added up. From that, I think I did quite well in French, Aus History and Literature as well (Science and maths left something to be desired). Thanks for wondering about me!
Ooh that’s interesting. There’s not many readers who missed The Hunger Games. Well, I would recommend the first two books but the third book was definitely not my cup of tea. The movies are also quite good.
Yes! I love when Christmas parties start happening. It gets me feeling the season a lot more. 2am! Does that mean that you get along well with all the people you work with? It sounds fantastic!
Hmm I think I’m getting there in terms of readiness. We bought our Christmas tree and made it look great with lights and decorations. We’re yet to put the outside lights up. Maybe a job for next weekend.
Very true about the vegetables haha!
That’s the exact same with me! Red is the best capsicum!
No, I’m afraid the fruit thing even applies to apple pie and crumble. Not a fan. Which is sad because apple is probably my favourite fruit. Then it goes in a pie and it’s all sloppy and tasting off. Ugh. Aww no time for baking. Well let me know what you make when you have the time. I was just thinking I’d make gingerbread today, haha weird! Perfect treat for Christmas time. Gooey though, I’ve never tried it but I feel like it wouldn’t be the same. Each to their own.
You sound like you’re fully immersing yourself in Christmas festivities! Have fun with the rest of the decorations. And of course when it comes the time to decorate the tree with your family.
Maybe you could try Goodreads? I love it. A social media for people who read is perfect. And it’s simple.
Thanks for telling me how all the Christmas stuff is coming. Keep me posted. It’s happening slowly but surely here. How’s your week going? Anything to report? ๐Ÿ™‚ Talk soon!

      • Good evening!
Well everything is marked and mentally I’ve switched off! 5 school days to go. I can do it… As long as ofsted don’t come that would be horrendous.
Anyway how are you? So pleased to hear you had a great weekend. It’s always fun and sometimes you just need some down time like that. My downtime comes tomorrow! I’m off for breakfast with my friend tomorrow – pancake stacks! Yummy!! And then I’m meeting up with another friend to swap presents whilst having hot chocolates and cake. Finally, it’s tea with another group of friends for our secret Santa present swap. I will be very tired I reckon at the end of it!
You presentation evening sounds good. Glad it went well. I’ve always disliked science and maths so don’t worry! You can’t like everything!
Yeah I enjoyed the work night out! It was interesting and good fun. This Friday evening I’m off to the Christmas party of the cleaners from my old school. Because I was only one there when the building opened and left when they did as the building shut, we got really close. One of them is 70 soon. I adore them! There are some more my age though.
Have you put your outdoor lights up yet? I’ve got some up in my classroom. Woo. I sent a letter home to my mum telling her to get the tree up and the decorations out but she won’t until I’m home. Ahhhhh. I’m getting really excited.
Nothing else to report – I’m just trying to keep going to survive the last week. Have you been doing anything festive? X

      • Hello again!
Sorry it took me a while to reply. I’ve actually had a couple of late nights.
Ooh that means there’s only 2 days left for you now? So exciting! I’m glad you got all that work out of the way, now you’re ready for Christmas celebrations ๐Ÿ˜€
I’ve been good. I’ve actually had a few dinners with some families from primary school and with some family friends over the past couple of days and then I went to see Taylor Swift in concert, she was wonderful!! I was on a T Swizz high for a couple of days after hehe.
How was the breakfast with your friend, did you eat lots of pancakes? Ooh what were the presents you exchanged with your friend? Nosey me, feel free to ignore that! I love secret Santa exchanges although they can be a bit stressful if you get a person you don’t know as well. Hope your experience was all good and that you’re not too tired!
Sadly I’m still doing maths next year just to keep my options open and I’m doing psychology so I’m not completely rid of either of those two subject branches but I’m happy with my choices.
Aww that’s so awesome that you became friends with the cleaners, people you don’t expect are always the best company. The dinner sounds like a good time!
Yes my mum and I recently kicked my father outside to put up the lights. Honestly, sometimes he’s a bit of a Scrooge. But they do look wonderful, they’re all up the stairs to our house, on the banisters and our veranda. I love looking at everyone’s lights at this time.
Have you gone home to decorate your tree yet or is that a project for this weekend? Did I tell you that we set up ours? It looks gorgeous, I’m getting so excited!
How’s the last week closing up for you? The boys must be so excited.

Hey! How are you? Are you on holiday too now? Maybe we’ll talk much more!
Oh my days! I love a bit of T Swift. I was reading in a magazine that she took everyone in her crew who had anything to do with the tour on holiday as a thank you. She’s sooo nice. Are you an Adele fan?
Everything is good now. Lots of food has already been consumed – I’m not going to lie. I will become a fatty pudding shaped person at this rate!!
Well I’ve no idea about the presents because I’ve not opened them. I opened the secret Santa present from work because they tend to be rude… I didn’t want to take anything dodgy home to my family. But, it was just a mug so not ,I have damage done there! I’ve had loads of cards and chocolates off the boys though which is lovely. I’ve only been there 14 weeks so to have so much was a surprise.
My Christmas night out with the cleaners was good. The food was good too! I do miss not seeing them twice a day.
My mum is the Scrooge in my family. My dad and I just went to get a tree and my mum moaned. Apparently we are only having lights on it. Pfftttttt.
Awww it sounds so pretty at your house. I’m really envious! I bet it’s all sparkly and festive. Perfect! I wish I could see ๐Ÿ™‚
The last week was soooo hard. The boys were soooo excited and all mental so teaching was hard work. I’m really tired. I feel broken. BUT it’s time to get ready for Xmas now. I still need to finish off buying presents. Are you all ready?
Have you any ideas on what to buy dads? Mine is so hard to buy for!

Hi! I’m really good, how about you?
Oh yes I’ve been on holidays since November 26th or something. So yes hopefully we can talk more often now.
Taylor Swift is amazing. The concert was so much fun, lots of colour and costumes and dancing. I do like some Adele. Her song, Turning Tables is probably my favourite but I’m as obsessed with Hello as the rest of the world.
I’m glad you’ve been eating all the food, it wouldn’t be Christmas without some good feasting.
Haha rude presents! Interesting ๐Ÿ™‚ I love mugs because I’m such a huge coffee and tea drinker.
I always used to give my teachers presents when I was in primary school but not anymore in high school. That was a lovely thought from all the boys. Enjoy the chocolates! It must mean that you’ve already asserted yourself as a fantastic teacher!
I’m glad your Christmas night out went well, I’m still not over how lovely that is, the fact that you still see them.
Only lights on a tree? Go for it with all the decorations! Is the tree you included in your post 12 Days of Christmas Blogging day 1 the finished product? If so, it looks amazing! Really unique.
Aww thanks! Yes, I’m really happy with how the house turned out. I wish there was a way I could show you!
I can imagine the excitement of everyone in the last week of school. Now you can rest and get ready for Christmas.
For me, for some reason, it still doesn’t feel like Christmas. I still can’t believe it’s only a couple of days away. I hope it sets in soon. Though it’s hard to think at all in the above 40 degree heat here! Stifling!
Hmm for dads…well mine isn’t very fussed so he usually gets cologne, books, DVD sets for TV shows, maybe tickets for a show, a nice lunch at an expensive restaurant or something like that? Sorry I’m not too helpful!
My mum in the hard one to buy for.
What have you been up to? Any plans for Christmas coming up?

How’s your holiday going so far?
Aww I’m thrilled you had a brilliant time at T Swift. I bet it was amazing. There’s always pictures from her tour in our press here. It does look rather spectacular! The reason why I ask about Adele is because my dad and I managed to get my mum tickets for Christmas. MASSIVE SURPRISE.
I’m still not sorted for Christmas and feeling a tad more worried. But, I’m seeing a friend in Stratford tomorrow so I hope to find more.
The tree is up with lights on it! It looks pretty lovely. The photo in my post was last years but this years tree doesn’t look much different. It is a little bigger though! We also have a really beautiful wreath on the door as well.
I went to a Christmas market today. No photos of me – I looked like a drowned rat, but it was sooo lovely to see. I find it really hard to imagine it being sooooo hot. We were getting excited in England because it was over 10 degrees. The weather people keep repeating ‘mild weather’ so we are all in a bit of shock to be honest!
I’m treating my grandma to tea tomorrow night. She was in hospital on Friday so she’s really down. I want to cheer her up. It’s so difficult since my grandad died.
Also swapping presents for the rest of this week and drinking lots of wine! My best friend came round last night to give me wine, roses and chocolates. She’s a goodun. I worked out today that we’ve been friends for 14 years. Amazing.
What have you been doing? It’s nearly Christmas!!!!

      • Hellooooo…it’s me.
(Sorry, thought I’d start out with a little Adele reference hehe) Your mum must be really excited!
Anyway, glad you’re well! My holiday has been pretty boring. I don’t know what it is but it just doesn’t feel like Christmas yet. I haven’t been feeling it which is a bit sad. Hopefully with only a,couple of days left I can find the spirit.
Hopefully gift inspiration will hit you tomorrow then. But don’t stress, it’ll be fine.
Your tree sounds lovely if it’s similar to last year’s. If it’s even bigger you can’t go wrong. I loved the snowman on the top and the bon-bon! Really pretty.
We have a lovely wreath too. Ours is just the classic holly with bundles of those red berries. What does yours look like?
Ooh I’ve never been to a market dedicated to just Christmas. Did it just sell all the decorations, trees and food? All the pictures you took were lovely. Anything catch your eye especially?
The weather has calmed down a bit now. We’re getting mid-twenties and Christmas is supposed to be 31 or something. As much as I would like it, I can’t imagine it being that cold either haha!
It seems like Christmas is a time spent with friends for you. You all seem to be treating each other this season. Lots of prezzies and food! 14 years is phenomenal, good on you two!
So yeah, I haven’t been doing much. Probably the reason Christmas snuck up on me this year. But don’t get me wrong I’m excited. We’ve organised to go to breakfast for my mum’s side and lunch/dinner at my dad’s. We switch those around every year. It’s all very organised. Anything new happening in your household at the moment. Let me know about any new festivities!
3 more sleeps! Talk soon ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hello from the outside!
She doesn’t know yet – but she will on Christmas Day. I told my dad he needs to get creative and make like a ticket for her. He said he would just give her the email or tell her. Haha no style there!
Well it’s 7:24am here. Need an early start to finally finish the Christmas things!
Awww I’m so sad you’re not feeling it yet. I am and I’m not. I got so stressed in town yesterday because people are so rude and wrapped up in their own little worlds, but nevermind.
Yes it’s fairly similar. It does look pretty. Christmas is hard for us all because my grandad was the massive lover of Christmas and he sadly passed away. This is our second Christmas without him and it’s still a bit weird. But, I always buy a little Christmas tree with glitter on it and I go to his grave Christmas Day. It’s also hard for my nan because she would rather be alone so I drop by hers too.
Aww your wreath sounds so lovely. I love holly, especially when it has the berries on. We have a holly bush in our garden actually. I usually get some and put festive ribbon around it for the grave too. It sounds a bit morbid but I like visiting it and tending to it. It’s the first place I go when I drive home.
Our wreath has green leaves but also some little white flowers (showing my lack of gardening knowledge here!) but it has a silver and blue star as well with little thistles and it smells of jasmine. Very nice too! It’s quite heavy actually!
The market was really good. You’re right in thinking it sells food and decorations. It sold like decorated candle holders as well. And lots of beer and mulled wine. (You’re too young! :P) but it was good. It’s finished now as well so that’s a sure sign Christmas is coming.
We are having a mild Christmas but there were cheers yesterday when a frost was mentioned for Christmas Day. I think we’ve had a white Christmas probably once in my lifetime. It’s more likely that we’ll need beachwear this year! Like you really!!
Awww that sounds like a lovely plan. Maybe you’ll feel more festive on Christmas Eve?
The only new development is I found the BEST gift for my dad: a fajita heater. I was so happy. It’s this Mexican cooking kit and a lovely little pot to keep the wraps warm. Amazing. He likes cooking so I felt like I’d really fallen on my feet!
Hope you’re a little more festive today! 2 days to go!!!

      • Hi again!
Oh well I’m sure when she opens it on Christmas day she’ll be excited then! My dad’s a bit like that too, I know exactly what I’m going to get because he hasn’t got a clue sometimes and just straight up asks. But it’s still so exciting!!
It’s 9:00 am on Christmas Eve here now and I’m quite a bit more excited for it all now actually. I can sense it just round the corner.
Have you finished all your shopping and preparations now? I hope so!
I’m so sorry about your grandfather, I’m sure he would be extremely happy to see all the effort and happiness your family still puts into Christmas if he loved it so much. It’s nice that it’s a time that reminds you of him and keeps you two close.
Gardening skills? Haha my dad left me a message as he went off to work the other day to water the hydrangeas because of the hot weather and I had no idea what hydrangeas were, I had to google it! Shame!
Your wreath sounds lovely too. I love the smell of jasmine!
The market sounds so festive! Are you a bit of a candle person? Christmas candles smell amazing. Ugh I hate the taste of wine anyway but it seems like good stuff for those who do.
Aww you guys are so lucky for having snow/frost, I would kill for it! When it’s rarer it makes it all the more special I think.
Ooh that gift sounds lovely! I like getting cooking gifts too, I’m sure he’ll love it.
So yes, I am feeling a little more festive today. Energy is definitely in the air. Tonight I’m probably going to watch the Carols by Candlelight on TV that Melbourne puts on. I love them! The crowd is usually huge.
If I don’t hear from you again today, have a very merry Christmas! Enjoy tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m all finished and complete! Delivered the presents today, saw my grandparents and went and made my grandads grave all festive.
Aww I could have helped with the hydrangeas. I know about those!
I’m a big candle person. I really like them. Do you? I do have to be careful because some are so strong and give me headache. Do you get Yankee candles in Australia? They have a Christmas cookie one and it’s delicious. I love it.
Let me know how your Christmas goes, if you get chance! Have a jolly good one!!
        MERRY CHRISTMAS X

      • Well sadly, the big day has come and gone now. But a lot of excitement was had! Hope you had a lovely day too!!
See? Your gardening expertise is extensive. I’m horrible.
I am a big fan of candles although I barely ever get them because they can be quite expensive and I’d probably end up spending way too much money given half a chance. I’ve heard of Yankee candle but I’ve never seen a store in Australia. Probably online is the best for that.
Haha yes I eventually got in the mood and the day was as it always is, brilliant. It was great to see all the family together again and catch up. I got your first message too, thanks so much for that! I
I guess I’ll just tell you all about it.
Well I got woken up by my sister on Christmas day at 6:30am for presents even though we told her only after 7:00. She was too excited. Eventually I got about 10 minutes more sleep before it really was time for presents. It’s always so nice to have the whole family gathered around the Christmas tree oohing and ahhing at all the gifts opened. I got a few lovely gifts too so that was nice.
Then almost immediately after all that, we got dressed to go to breakfast at my grandmother’s house. We have champagne and Christmas ham on toast which is delicious. Then we played Bad Santa which is a complicated game that I won’t get into but at the core, you can steal people’s Christmas gifts in the Kris Kringle. I don’t love the game but what can you do? It was nice to spend time with the extended family anyway, I don’t see them too often.
Then we went to my uncle’s house on my dad’s side for a big Christmas lunch. After a bit of a potato-cooking drama, we got there and had a big traditional turkey and pork, vegetables and pudding dinner (no pudding for me, you know :). It was sooooo good. I caught up with cousins and my grandparents too which was lovely. My cousins are hilarious!
Then we went back home to relax, eat Christmas cake and drink tea and do whatever with the gifts we received.
Ahhh I love Christmas so much.
What did you get up to? I’m so excited to know!
Super long message sorry. Lots to talk about ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hello you!
        How are you?
This is always a strange time. I’m struggling to remember what day it is. This middle bit between Christmas and new year is really weird. For me anyway. I may just be sounding crazy.
Ohhh we can get Yankee candles everywhere in the uk but they are expansive. About ยฃ20 each! I’m not sure what that is in Australian money but I’m sure it’s a lot. I got one for Christmas so I was very happy.
Your Christmas sounds lovely and quite organised! Bless your sister for being so excited. I admit we were up a little later this year. Normally I’m up at 7 but I’m getting old!
So pleased you got lovely gifts. You deserve them. I was very lucky! I got the illustrated Harry Potter which I was super excited about. The only slight problem: I got two copies. Oops.
I’m not a big fan of the ‘games’ side and that sounds pretty rough. I like a good board game though! We never play any because my mum and dad aren’t a fan. I used to play them all the time with my grandparents.
So yeah we woke up Christmas Day and it was quite funny because my daddy worked up until Christmas eve this year so he sent us all back to bed whilst he wrapped presents. Oops! But it was good and my mum was so happy about the Adele tickets. Then I went to church to wish my grandad a merry Christmas. I bet it sounds strange but I miss him so much so I’m there a lot. I put a little Christmas tree and a nutcracker on so it looks pretty.
Then I went to visit my nan whilst my dad cooked the Christmas dinner. I took a cracker off our tree and she won. Inside was a star shaped cookie cutter which she loved. She’s a very keen baker. She’s also one of the best. She’s very talented.
Then I came home and we ate and drank a lot which was lovely. We listened to the Queen’s speech which this year was my favourite. I know I’ve mentioned this to you before, but this year she talked about being with people who provide light in our lives and things like that. It was lovely. My grandma loved it too. Odds on she cried at that.
I didn’t go to see my other grandparents because I went Christmas Eve. They have each other so they don’t need me as much as my other nan!
It’s raining so much here in England – everywhere is flooding or flooded. I’m sure it’s been on your news. Awful really. So I went through my wardrobe and drawers here and I’ve put some clothes in the donation banks we have and I’ve got some ready for the air ambulance as well. They seem pretty busy at the moment!
Anyway so that was it for me. Sound relatively normal but it really was lovely. New year soon and my family aren’t really big fans. I doubt we’ll be going anywhere (I wanted to but it got poo-pooed) we usually have a drink with my nan and my mum has a gammon she is going to roast. We also have another Christmas pudding waiting for us at my grandmas house. It really is delicious.
Hope you’re well. Do tell me what you’ve been up to! Also, I hope it’s not too hot there and that you’ve got no fires. We haven’t had any reports on our news – I do keep an ear open for it. X

      • HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Thanks for the thoughtful message yesterday. I was dead to the world from tiredness, but I appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚
According to my calculations it’s 14 minutes past the new year (as I’m writing this sentence)! So I hope you’re having fun or celebrating even though your family didn’t plan anything.
Your Christmas sounds equally lovely. And lucky too! Two copies of the HP Illustrated Edition? You must have been especially good this year haha! I looove board games, when my friends and I have sleepovers we always play board games (which makes us sound a bit boring, we do fun things too).
Aww your poor dad working so late. Hope he had a rewarding Christmas then!
Your nan sounds so cute! Usually cracker gifts are terrible so I’m happy she finds them usable.
I listened to the Queen’s address on YouTube just then and I agree, this year was a good one. The candle in the darkness talk was very nice.
Oh yes, the flooding seems terrible. I hope your area is not too bad. Thoughts are with everyone. It’s very kind of you to help out like that.
Did you spend New Year’s with your nan? Tell me about it all!
Yes, we’ve had a few fires but nothing on a too-large scale yet thank goodness.
I spent New Year’s at home, reading snuggled in bed. Then I stayed on social media for a lot of the night to keep awake so I could hear the Melbourne fireworks outside my window. And then, wouldn’t you know it, I couldn’t get to sleep for ages hence my deadness to the world! Today I watched the firework show video and it was really awesome. I love fireworks! Although, apparently we had a problem with illegal fireworks and now there are two people fighting for life after injury. We had one really close to our house so I hope those people are alright.
Let me know what you’ve been up to. Right back at you with the well wishes! I hope you have a wonderful 2016, you deserve it also! X

      • Hey you!
Oh my gosh the first day back at work was soooo hard today. I really struggled to sleep and then I was awake soooo early. Also, when I got back to my flat last night I had no heating or hot water. Horrendous.
        Anyway! How are you?
I was so excited about being awake for your message. Thank you!! NY was good but quiet -just family which was lovely. We had a little too much to drink. My dad who is normally awake at 7 woke us all up at 10am! That’s almost never heard of in my parents house! We watched the fireworks too. They were amaaaazing. I had to go and sit with my bunny rabbit because he was getting scared so he jumped in my lap and wanted a cuddle. So cute.
        It was quiet, but perfect.
Are you back now?! I’ve no other news really – apart from the challenges I’ve faced so far. But whilst I wait for my landlord to come and fix my heating I’ve just ordered a Chinese. Can’t wait.
Let me know how your week goes x

      • Yay! I’ve been stalking my messages notification for your reply! It’s so good to hear from you again ๐Ÿ™‚
Oooh back to work. I hate that initial stage when you have to wake up early again and get back into the swing of things. Mixed with your flat situation I can imagine the feelings. Anyway, I’m sure you’re happy to see the boys again? I’m not back at school until the very end of January I think so I have a bit more of a holiday.
Aw I was excited to get your message. Hope I didn’t keep you up too late. I’m glad to hear of your NYE. I really don’t mind a quiet new year’s just with family. Don’t you just love firework shows? They’re one of my favourite things. So pretty!
I used to have a pet rabbit too but he died last year, but he had had a long life. What’s your rabbit’s name? They’re the cutest things!
Let’s hope your apartment is back to normal in no time. Funnily enough, we’ve had oven problems and I haven’t been able to bake. My mum hasn’t been able to whip up her usual awesome dinners either. I think someone is coming to fix it really soon. Enjoy your Chinese food (I’m jealous).
I haven’t been up to too much recently. I’m waiting for a book package to arrive in the mail. It takes over my life whenever I order books. I’m watching the Hopman Cup and getting excited for the rest of the summer season of tennis. I’ve been getting ready for going back to school sadly too. Getting new shoes, getting my blazer embroidery done, that sort of thing. Boring stuff, sorry! But soon I’ll be going away for ten days. Just in time for the start of school.
Let me know how the first week of school goes, what you get up to!

Gosh I’m so sorry about the late reply and the million comments on your post. Delete them if you’d like to! I only meant to leave one but it kept saying it failed. Grrrrr.
        Anyway! Hey. How are you?
Well the first week back was fairly awful but it seems to have calmed down a bit now. How was your week? It was great to see the boys again yes. They seem to be happy! So jealous you’re still on holiday. Wish I was!!
Is it me, or does NYE seem so long ago? But yeah I love fireworks. They are just so pretty and seeing the sky all lit up is lovely. I love the London fireworks because they usually have some off the London eye which is amazing.
Awww I’m sorry to hear about your rabbit. I had a giant rabbit and she died. It’s so sad because you get really attached to them. The rabbit we have now is tiny and he’s called Smudge. He’s got the biggest brown eyes with eye lashes (so cute). He’s all brown apart from the tips of his feet which are white. Adorable. I miss him when I’m away actually. But he’s a good boy… Well he’s not. We are having to get a new door at home because he’s biting it.. Ha.
I hope everything is fixed in your home now! My heating works thank god. It was a very cold night without it. Yuck. Anyway, hope you’ve managed to get your bake on again! I haven’t baked in so long. I’ve forgotten how to probably!
Did your book arrive? I love getting new books. It’s really exciting. I’ve had to order a cheap copy of HP and the philosopher’s stone for school. Major problems there though because apparently it’s out of print. With the release of the illustrated one, they’ve stopped printing the first normal copy. Nightmare.
Ohhh I’ve just watched the darts final. I like darts actually which sounds a bit strange I know. I think it can get quite tense. Mind you, the final wasn’t as exciting tonight really.
Tennis! Ahh our mutual love for tennis. How was the Hopman cup? Is it over yet? We’ve no coverage of that here so I know nothing!
Monday again tomorrow and it’s another busy week. I’ve got year 10 parents evening on Wednesday. Then a few of us are off for a cheeky Nandos. Do you have Nandos in Australia? The kids are obsessed with it!
I’m waiting for post as well. I am a proper geek and love Glee. I’ve just ordered season 5 because I’ve never seen it. It got taken off normal UK TV and put on Sky which I don’t have so I missed the final few seasons. Hopefully I’ll have my post next week!
Anyway, sorry for being so rubbish. Hope you’ve he a good week! X

  8. Well that was a fail. I left your message for a little bit because I’m going away soon and wanted to give you all the details up until that time but now I’ve left it so long my WordPress notifications won’t let me go back so far so now I have to start a new conversation. Sorry!
Don’t worry about all those comments. It was a little laugh.
I’m going really well, thanks! Like I said, I’m going away with my family for the last bit of the summer holidays. So it’s been kind of busy getting everything sorted because when we get back I pretty much go straight back to school.
Just a note, wasn’t it terrible to hear about Alan Rickman this morning? I was actually more devastated than I though. But his character meant so much to my childhood. Your post was lovely!
Anyway, sorry to hear about your bad first week. Hope things are smoother sailing now?
Aww your rabbit is so cute! I just want to hold him haha! My rabbit always used to bite things he wasn’t supposed to as well. Naughty!
My books did indeed arrive. It was so exciting. I did a post about all the books I got. I just adore book mail so much, I practically stalk the tracking events until it comes to my doorstep.
I like darts, I mean, it’s not something that I sit down and watch as an event but I’ll watch it if nothing’s on. I like to play it more though.
An Australian won the Hopman Cup! It was a big deal here, it hasn’t happened in ages. Aus Open so soon, I’m so excited!!
We do have Nandos in Australia. I love their chips haha! I hope your school evening went well?
I used to watch Glee but I don’t know what happened, I just stopped. Maybe I should give it another go.
Sorry for the late reply again. It wasn’t really worth it in the end because I didn’t really end up doing much that warranted waiting for news. I’ve been really busy scheduling posts to come up while I’m away. Getting school stationary (about the only about school that I like, I love new stationary), practicing my instruments so I don’t sound awful when school starts again.
Hopefully I’ll have more news when I get back from my holiday. It’s just 10 days by a lake. My family (not me) goes water-skiing, I like to read, play and watch tennis with my dad and go swimming in the pool. That sort of thing. Family friends go up too, it’s a bit of fun.
Let me know how you’re going and what you’ve been up to. Probably a lot since I took forever and a day to respond. Sorry I won’t be able to talk while I’m away. I’ll be sure to respond as soon as I get home.
Hope you’ve had a good week!

Ohh that’s ok don’t worry. It usually takes me ages to respond anyway so I apologise.
I assume you’ve gone away now? Have a great time. ๐Ÿ™‚ family time is always lovely. I feel like running home at this point in time but there’s too much to do!
I’m so sad about Alan Rickman. Such a talented and lovely man. I’m still sad. Teaching Harry Potter this week was weird, but the boys are enjoying it. It’s lovely to see that at platform 9 and 3/4s in London there’s lots of flowers for him. Fitting tribute.
Things are a little better. Just very busy. I’m having to learn a new exam because I’ve picked up more year 11 classes. Top set. 5 times a week. Hmmmmmmm
The rabbit has been really cold at home because it’s been in the minuses so he’s been curled up in a blanket. Soooo cute. I’ll try and show you a pic somehow! He’s a cutie.
As if Nandos is in Australia! Do you guys say “off for a cheeky Nandos” like we do? I’m not sure what’s cheeky about it but for some reason it’s really caught on.
Parents Eve was ok but 5 of my 8 kids didn’t show up so I was sat there for two hours and the other 3 came VERY late. So I was a bit cross really.
I’m catching up on glee now. Season 5. Cried my eyes out at the episode of Finn’s death. It was really sad. Waste of talent.
Have an amazing holiday. Today I saw a friend I went to primary school with. It’s a funny story. We were at primary school and he moved to Australia so we lost touch (before the days of Facebook etc) when I was at uni this guy came up to me and asked if I was me and it was him! Then he moved to Birmingham to do a masters but he’s back in the north now. After all this time. We’ve been friends forever. It’s amazing after all this time that we can just pick up where we left off. He’s moved to Huddersfield for a job so I was pleased to see him.
Life is pretty stressful at the moment! Nothing exciting really to tell. Enjoy the hols x

        I’m back! Obviously.
Sorry about the break in replies but there is no such thing as internet where I went on holiday. It’s both a blessing and a huge hindrance.
How have you been? Sounds as though ‘very busy’ is the answer. Hope things have become more manageable now.
That tribute for Alan sounds so great. I loved seeing platform 9 3/4 when I went to London. I can imagine the sight of it filled with flowers.
How’s the teaching of Harry Potter going? I’m so interested to hear what you talk about in class. Did I mention I’m jealous of your students?..
Haha we don’t say anything about going off for a cheeky Nandos. It’s not a very big thing here. I can’t even remember the last time I had it.
That was so sad when the actor of Finn died. I was never a big Glee person (though I watched the first season religiously when it came out on TV here. Don’t know what happened) but yes, definitely a waste of good talent.
The holiday was pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of the water so I don’t do any of the sports really, preferring just to read and enjoy the sun. I actually read four books in 9 days which I was pretty impressed with. I played and watched a lot of tennis. I needed to improve a bit, my last lesson was the first week of December. I was a bit rusty. Now I’ll be playing for school.
I’m so excited for the Open right now. Serena Williams is still a big chance for winning, especially now that Azarenka is out and Milos Raonic (my favourite male player) is still in too. Been a really exciting time. I’M GOING TOMORROW! That turned into a bit of a tennis fangirl, sorry! Hope you’ve been getting updates over there.
School is in 4 days! Uuuugggghhhhh! I’ll have to be dragged kicking and screaming into class.
That’s such a great story! The world is a lot smaller than it seems. I’m not sure I’d want to see anyone I went to primary school with. Shudder. Those were not the days. But it’s nice that you two can pick up the friendship.
I’d love to see a cute picture of your bunny rabbit all snuggled up!
Again, hope the stress has died down a bit. Let me know how you’re doing. Have you learned that new exam? I just got my timetable and class lists for the school year. It’s too close. Right now, I’m just basking up the last few days of holidays.
        Talk soon ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hello you!
        How are you?
Gosh it was strange whilst you were away. Life has been pretty stressful actually but I’m ok. Had a couple of meltdowns but I’ll be alright. Too much pressure!
Anyway, how was your holiday? Did you have a good time?
I heard about Serena being knocked out… I did think of you!
Our chat is slightly out of date now so I figured I’d just ramble and see where it goes.
The weather is awful here at the minute. Soooo windy. It blew a lorry onto its side on the Humber bridge today. That’s not a place where you want to roll over…in a lorry.
Are you back at school now? 2 weeks till half term. I can’t wait. I’m in a serious reading block which is distressing me so I will need that week off to get my life back in order.
Anyway. Tell me all. ๐Ÿ™‚ x

      • Hello!
I’m doing pretty well, thanks. I’m back at school now which is terrible but I’m settling into the routine again. I’m so much busier this year, tennis training and games, music and ensembles, work and study…I can only imagine what year 12 will be like! I really needed this weekend to get it all together and not freak out.
I’m sorry to hear about your week. Hope the meltdowns have gone and the stress is rapidly diminishing. How’s work going now? You must be excited about the half term break coming soon. Any plans for that time?
My holiday was good. Lots of reading got done which is awesome. Summer has been much cooler this year.
Haha thank you. Whenever Serena loses I actually get so upset I have to remind myself that it’s just a game of sport.
We’re getting the cooler weather here too. Mornings can be quite frosty despite it being summer. That accident sounds awful. I hope everyone was okay. Windy weather is never much fun.
Reading blocks are so frustrating. You don’t want to force it but you also don’t want to abandon it. Re-read a past favourite is my suggestion. Given that you’re teaching Harry Potter that’s a good place to start.
Anyway, let me know how it’s all going. I’m also a little stressed at the moment. The school year started so quickly. I’m sure we’ll both be back to normal in no time.
        Talk soon!

      • Hey stranger!
How’s school going? I break up Friday for a whole week (cannot wait) but I’ve got a mountain of marking to get through first.
You sound so busy! I don’t remember doing half of that stuff when I was at school. I’m super lazy though.
You’ll be amazing! You’ll take it in your stride and do well of course.
Work is still busy but I’m surviving! This is how it is now until year 11 leave. I’ll feel better once their coursework is out of the way.
Half term is being spent at home in a very flooded Stratford. It’s so bad at the moment. How’s the weather for you? I’m pleased it’s been cooler. I was so worried about the fires you were telling me about. I’m not sure what my plans are! I’m at my friends wedding on Saturday. Then heading back to Stratford for a week on Sunday. It’ll fly. Holidays always do.
        Hope you’re less stressed?
I’ve just re watched all the Harry Potters this week. Ahhhh I just love them. Voldemort really scares me though. I can’t get past the fact he has no nose…
Hope you’re well and dandy ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hi again!
How’s everything going with you? You’re on week long break now right? I’m very jealous.
School’s going alright. Lots of work to do. But I’m managing. There are a lot of music commitments actually. I feel like I bring my instrument to school every day.
I’m just back from school sport actually. We have a competition with other schools in the Melbourne area every Saturday. Does your school do something like that? I’m doing tennis of course. It’s quite fun even though it takes up a bit of your weekend.
Haha I’m definitely quite busy but also less stressed. I’m sure you’re not lazy, just have different passions!
When do the year 11s leave? That’s like with our school too, they leave earlier.
Stratford is flooded? Oh no. Hope everything’s ok! At least you’ll be back at home. To see your parents I assume?
Weather here is getting hot. Playing tennis today was hard work.
I love weddings! They’re so happy and celebratory. Congrats to your friend. Let me know what you get up to on the holidays when you know.
Harry Potter movie marathons!! Yay. Haha Voldemort is a little disconcerting. Bellatrix is my favourite villain, she’s just so crazy! Do you know about Pottermore? Have you done the Sorting Hat quiz on there? I did it and got Ravenclaw again. You should do it if you haven’t!
Next week is going to be very busy for me again. Tests are starting up now that we’ve been back at school a little while. Assemblies and masses and all that jazz. I’m trying to enjoy the weekend as much as possible while it’s here.
Hope you have a fun and relaxing time on your holiday. Tell me all on what you’re up to! Hope you’re well also. ๐Ÿ™‚

        How are you?
My week off has been great. I really needed it! I’ll tell you all about it of course.
You’re so dedicated musically. I gave it up as soon as I could because I just couldn’t cope doing that and school work. Shame really but I may pick it up again one day?!
Oh that’s really exciting. We love tennis! Yes my school does all sorts like that. They have their own football team and rugby team as well as badminton, boxing, rock climbing etc. Quite impressive really. Also on Saturday the drum core boys practice at school so they are perfect for when we have Sunday church service and they parade through town.
The year 11s leave in May. They are lovely but I’d like the stress to go away now. Ha.
Stratford was quite flooded but it’s all ok now. It’s been really sunny apart from yesterday when it was flooding again by my grandmas. But it will soon dry up with the sun today.
I love Pottermore! I got Gryffindor! So cool. When we go back I’m doing the sorting hat ceremony with year 7. Need to plan that in a little more detail though.
How have your tests gone. All good I hope!
I’ll tell you all about my holiday now. Firstly, on Saturday was my friends wedding. It was at this little church which was so cute and then at a big castle hotel – Cave Castle. Google it – it’s stunning. I was there all day. It was so beautiful. I do love a good wedding. It was really nice to see some of my ex colleagues and friends. We keep in touch through Facebook, but teachers have a really bad habit of getting together because we are consumed by our work. The bride was my mentor when I was training to be a teacher. Crazy times.
Sunday I drove back to Stratford and had lunch with my momma and went to see my grandma in the evening.
Then it was Monday and I was really good because I worked at home marking my year 11 books. Tuesday I had the dentist which I absolutely hate but it was all fine thank god. In the afternoon I had my hair cut. It always makes me feel better. After looking at my vein selfie in my latest post I’m glad I did it! My hair was looking shabby. Yesterday was difficult because my nan got a call saying the doctor would visit her. She was all panicked thinking they would say they can’t help her and she will die soon. She didn’t want anyone with her but she did need someone so I went and spent the day with her. It’s really upsetting to see someone in so much distress just at the thought of a doctor visiting. But, they’ve offered her different medications to help make her feel better. She’s such a worrier. We did have some lunch today which was good. I treasure every minute with her. It’s hard because we both miss my grandad so much. Ahh. Life sucks at times.
Today I’m going to plan my lessons for next week, I’m having coffee with an ex teacher this morning. He taught me when I was in 6th form but he’s become a massive family friend. I think he keeps his hand on the teaching pulse through me. Then this afternoon I’m taking my momma to be pampered. She’s having her hair done as well. She’s super stressed at the moment and I’ve hardly seen her this week so that will be nice. Tomorrow I need to make coursework ๐Ÿ˜ฆ but I’m having tea with my best friend in the evening. All very exciting. See, I do have a life… Sometimes!!
Hope everything has been good with you. Let me know how everything’s going ๐Ÿ™‚ x

      • Hi Charley!
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your week off.
A rock-climbing team? That’s so cool! I’m not sure I’d be able to do it but I think it’d be fun to watch.
Only a couple more months with the year 11’s. You’ve got this.
I was so sad when Pottermore changed from having all of those interactive things like Potions class and turned into just information. I mean, it’s nice but the old site was better. Gryffindor, nice!
My tests actually went quite well, thanks for asking.
I took a look at Cave Castle. It’s stunning. What a great place to have a wedding! It’s so sweet that the bride was your mentor and now you’re at her wedding.
Ugh I hate the dentist too. I’m always so worried that something’s wrong and it seems like they’re always criticising your teeth. Yuck.
Bless your nan. Sounds like she’s going through a tough time. Hope all is well. I’m sending my best wishes her way.
You certainly do have a life. Your days are so much more interesting than mine. How was the latter end of your week off?
Things are going pretty well with me. It’s my sister’s birthday today so we’re having a family get together for a late lunch which should be fun. Then it’s back to school. We have our swimming carnival this week. I hate swimming! We’re doing A Christmas Carol for school and I’ve got a test on that. I actually quite like it, rare for school books. Do you teach that book at your school? School camp is getting pretty close too which is terrifying.
Anyway, how have you been since last year when I last messaged you? Sorry about that. Hope your mum is starting to feel less stressed. And you too.
Let me know what’s happening. I promise to respond sooner next time!

It’s taken me so long to reply I had to sift through my posts and comments! I found it eventually. How are you? How’s your week been?
I’m so glad your tests went well. You deserve it!
Nothing too much has been happening here, apart from SNOW. What a nightmare. We had 3 seasons in one day the other day. The kids get all excited and teaching them when it’s snowing is really hard work. Nevermind. On the first day back we had no power as well which was also interesting! It made me realise how much we rely on electricity. I missed my whiteboard and my computer and most of all – lights!
Thanks for your wishes for my Nan. She seems to be doing better but she has good days and bad days. My other grandad was in hospital and hasn’t been very well. I’ve come home this weekend for Mother’s Day and to see him but he didn’t want to see or talk to me. Not a nice feeling. Nevermind. I’m taking my mum out tomorrow which will be lovely though.
This may be a stupid question but do you have Mother’s Day this Sunday?
This next tournament of tennis is on! Have you been watching? I haven’t but my mum was chatting about it with my nan today.
I hope your sister had a lovely birthday. When’s yours? I’d like to know so I can send you a message!
A Christmas Carol is a new GCSE text so I’m teaching it next term! It’s a weird time to be teaching and reading it. It needs to be done over Christmas really! I do like it though. I’m a huge Dickens fan.
I’m shocked you don’t like swimming! I love swimming. But, I never get chance to do it.
Anyway, I really hope you’re well and everything is doing swimmingly. Excuse the pun!
Hope to hear from you soon love!! X

      • Hello!
I’m back from a short little holiday over the long weekend we had here. There was so much work to do and catch up on. Hope you’re doing well!
My week has been so busy. It’s the last week of the school term as next week we go on camp so teachers have been piling on the work. I hate school camp and we’ve been preparing for it a lot recently. Nightmare! I’m going horse riding up in the north east of Victoria which hopefully won’t be too bad. Everyone says I will have such a sore butt when I get back, not looking forward to that. But at least my best friend is going with me. We have to organise all our own food and stuff.
I wish we had snow here. The weather’s been getting hotter here even though we’re going into the colder months.
I’m so happy to hear that your nan is doing better and I hope hope your grandad is ok. My nan recently went to hospital and it was pretty serious but she’s improving now. She’s won’t go down without a fight for sure!
Did you have a good day out with your mum? Treat yourselves nicely?
We didn’t have Mother’s day this time around. I’m actually not sure when it is which is pretty bad.
Are you talking about the tennis in Indian Wells? It’s very exciting and because it’s an Olympic year I feel like all the players are trying especially hard. Do you love the Olympics as much as me? I’m glued to the tellie when it’s on. The UK does so well all the time.
My sister’s birthday was great and now my mum’s has passed as well. I’m on the 28th of August. When’s yours? I’d love to know too!
Yes I think ACC should be a end of year book too but it doesn’t matter.
Ugh swimming is the worst and that’s saying something because I came 1st in my breaststroke race.
All in all, it’s just been another school week. Lots of tests to do then I’ll be going camping for Easter break. When do you break up for the holidays?
Let me know how it’s all going. It’s been a while. Again! Sorry…
Did you manage that Sorting class you were going to do with your year 7s? I’d love it hear about it if you did.
Hoping you are well! Talk soon X

Sorry for the slow reply. I’ve been poorly with a throat infection for two weeks and I’ve not be here. I’ve hardly eaten or slept so I’ve been feeling sorry for myself.
Aww how is everything going? School camp sounds fairly awful. We do a summer school but I doubt I’ll be taking part!
Horses scare me a bit, so you’re braver than me. I’m always worried I’m going to get kicked off. Have a safe but amazing time.
Family seem to be all ok now which is good. My nan (dad’s mum who lives on her own) is 87 next Tuesday. She’s an absolute trooper. I can’t believe it. She’s amazing. The doctors keep telling her she’s old and there’s nothing they can do for her and she’s lived her life which I think is fairly disgraceful.
Mother’s Day was lovely. My mum seemed really happy which is good. I break up for Easter this Thursday and on the Friday we are on a spa day. Very exciting!
Awww your birthday is close to mine! Mines July 6th. Summer babies!
Are you on holiday now? I hope you’re having lots of fun. Can’t wait for mine – I’m so tired. I fear I say this all the time but being ill really takes it out on you. Thankfully, I didn’t take any time off. Woo.
I’ve just been doing diagon alley with my year 7s. We have been looking for a magical brick in school and looking at the description. They are loving it bless them.
I’ve been teaching The Yellow Wallpaper to my year 9s as well and it’s really freaking them out. We have French exchange students in this week as well.
On Wednesday its dinner day. It’s my first dinner day so I’m really excited. Basically the whole school goes on parade and gets inspected by the master warden and the the boys have a big lunch. The year 10 and 11s are in the white squad uniform and they serve lunch to the staff. It’s so exciting. It’s to mark the day in history when the boys would finish school and go off to serve in the merchant navy. I love the history of my school. When I’ve learnt more about dinner day I’ll tell you all about it!
        Talk soon. Miss you! X

      • Hi Charley! Happy Easter!!!
So good to hear from you! So sorry to hear about your illness recently. Hope you’re feeling 100% again.
School camp was actually tolerable. My horse was a little bit uncooperative at times but I just couldn’t help but love him by the end. Plus, we had cabins instead of tents for most of it which was awesome!
I was a little scared of it too but you really get used it to them quickly.
Ugh your poor nan, that is horrible. Glad she’s proving to all those doctors how much of a fighter she is.
While your nan is feeling better, mine’s had a nasty fall and now is in hospital once again. She’s got an awful black eye and I’m really worried. But she’s like your nan, doesn’t give up.
Yep I was on holiday after holy Thursday and went away straight after school camp to go camping again with family. It was so much fun. I love them to bits. There’s a famous Australian running race that we go to. There’s a bit of history there but it’s a great excuse to catch up and sit around the campfire (with marshmallows).
Ooh we are born close together. Haha but I’m a winter baby not a summer one.
So you’re on holidays too now? Planning anything special? It sounds like you need a bit of rest and recovery. Me too! I’m beat.
All your school lessons sound so fun and exciting. Makes mine seem so boring. Ooh we have French exchange students coming soon too I think. They come into my French class and help out with my awful French! It’s good.
Dinner day sounds interesting. There’s nothing remotely like that here. Tell me all about it!
Did you get any chocolate on Sunday? Have you been scoffing it like me? Dark chocolate is my weakness.
Not many plans for the holidays for me. I might catch up with friends, watch a movie. Otherwise, I need to catch up on reading. My efforts to read have been abysmal recently. I also need to start writing a speech for my English class on the holidays on the topic of inequality in Australia. Interesting, huh?
Anyway, let me know what you’ve been up to.How are the holidays going?
Can’t wait to hear from you!!

      • LIAM! I’m so glad you’ve messaged me. This has cheered me up no end.
How are you? I’m feeling much better now thanks but lots going on at home making me feel so worried. But, I’ll get there.
School camp sounds like an acceptable experience. Cabins sounds much more pleasant than tents. I’m not a huge fan of camping so this would appeal to me. I tried to camp in my back garden when I was about 14, but the fence rattled and I cried. It ended after about 2 hours.
My nan turned 88 on Tuesday 22nd March and I’m heartbroken because she spent the day in hospital. She was struggling to breathe again, but they sent her away. Then on the following Thursday (the day I broke up from school thankfully) and she was rushed into hospital – blue lights and everything because she couldn’t breathe at all. She thought she was going to die. Absolutely horrific. She spent 5 hours in A&E and finally got a bed on a ward at 1am. No place for an elderly lady.
So there’s been lots of hospital visits and driving. She’s at home now but she think the hospital made her worse. She’s picked up a cold and a virus. Argh.
I’m so sorry to hear about your nan too. Her black eye sounds quite nasty actually. I hope she’s on the mend and feeling a bit better. It must be really awful feeling like our nans do.
I’m glad you enjoyed camping so much. I love spending time with the family. Aww I can imagine you all around the camp fire which is so lovely.
I’m on holiday until 11th April which is a relief. I’m fairly tired. Easter was a bit of a blur and we all spent it in hospital. How was your holiday? Hope you’ve been reading lots!
I got lots of chocolate but I tend to nibble at bits. I don’t scoff and scoff. How about you?
Your speech sounds quite interesting. I make the boys think about the inequality for women. They usually complain but once they’ve research they are actually quite shocked.
Dinner day was amazing. So, in a nut shell the master warden (head of the brethren and an old school boy and captain) comes and inspects the whole school for their uniform. So the whole school stand on parade and get called to attention my tutor groups (houses like Year 7 Johnson etc) and the master warden, head, captain and vice captain who are in year 11 inspect the boys. Then after that’s done everyone goes to chapel. After chapel there’s a bit lunch of steak pie and all the trimmings but what amazed me about this was the white squad (senior officers from year 11) all served the guests, students and staff their lunch. They looked amazing. I’m quite lucky because the white squad are all my year 11 top set. I was so proud of them. They did an amazing job. Then there’s speeches and finally it ends off with the oranges. So each person puts their hands behind their back to pick two oranges to protect them from scurvy. In history, this was when the boys would leave school and go off to sea with the merchant navy.
Hope I haven’t bored you, but I’ve just realised how huge this message is!!
        Speak soooon x

      • Charley! Thanks for the message (I loved how long it was, don’t worry!), it was great to hear from you. I’m sorry that you are under such worry at the moment. Hope you found time to relax on the holidays!
Sorry for the late reply. I was actually away for four days because my sister had a swimming competition and I went along. Sheโ€™s in this thing called Special Olympics for people with disabilities. She won every event that she entered which made me feel really good about all Iโ€™ve achieved in life haha. Nah I was super proud. She was ecstatic.
Oh no, your poor nan. That’s no way to spend a birthday! That’s absolutely awful. Is she feeling any better? My thoughts are going out to her.
My nan is feeling much better thank you. She was able to come to my sister’s birthday and seemed to be in her usual spirits…even if her bruises have moved down her face and arms. But she insists she’s doing fine.
After coming back from camping with my family, I didnโ€™t do much for the easter holidays. A few appointments, an outing with my friends to the city and just general relaxation.
Iโ€™m back at school now, I guess you are too. I just canโ€™t deal with it at the moment. I need another week or seven on holiday. I forgot to do some homework over the holidays. My teacher wasnโ€™t angry but I was kind of annoyed with myself. Are you feeling ready for the last term of your year?
I just finished my easter chocolate a couple of days ago. It was a sad day ๐Ÿ™‚
Yes it’s quite an interesting topic. I’m really interested to see what other people do. I chose to do marriage equality because itโ€™s quite the personal issue for me. I cannot believe it hasnโ€™t been legalised in Australia yet. Stupid politicians. It’s awesome that you bring up the discussion with your boys. Sometimes we can take for granted our privilege so it’s good to hear about and from more vulnerable members of society.
Dinner day sounds so interesting. Thereโ€™s certainly nothing like that here so itโ€™s cool to hear about schools overseas and their traditions.
I feel like I havenโ€™t got much to talk about so I hope youโ€™ve got some news to share. Iโ€™ve been feeling a bit down recently. It happens every now and then. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s so good to have lovely people like you to talk to!
Tell me all! Seriously, anything. Canโ€™t wait to hear back from you! Sorry Iโ€™m a bit boring this week.

        How are you?
That’s amazing about your sister. Massive congratulations to her. She’s done remarkably well. You’re just as talented so don’t take it personally. I can’t really relate to this because I don’t have a sibling, but when I was younger I was always compared to my cousin. It’s really frustrating.
My nan is doing ok but it was my first week back, so she’s been a bit down because I’m not there. I rang her for a good chat on Friday and she’s doing well. Building up her strength and resting in the peace at home.
I’m so pleased your nan is feeling better. That generation are so resilient and independent as well. It takes a lot for my nan to admit she’s not feeling great. I imagine yours is just the same.
Aww I know exactly how you feel. My first week back was sooo busy and our year 11s have their exam in just over 2 weeks which is really stressful. English is the first one! I’m more worried than they are. They seem to be taking it in their stride bless them.
I’m feeling great though. I started my new role as second in department. I’ve never seen so much data in my life but I’m really enjoying it. I feel trusted which is lovely.
I’m lucky… There’s still some Easter chocolate left!
That topic is always sensitive wherever you are in the world. It seems silly that all countries don’t just face up to this fact of life!
I’m really honest with the boys because why lie? They ask about my life and tell them. On Friday they were teasing me that my mum won’t allow me to buy a bread knife because I usually cut myself because I’m so clumsy. I don’t care. I’m their teacher, yes, but I’m human too.
Hope you’re feeling a bit happier!! I completely understand. Sometimes it just happens. You need a good book (maybe the one I reviewed last? It’s like a big hug!) This will cheer you up… One of my year 7s believes that the Hogwarts train is in our basement at school so he’s been trying to find a magic brick to take him down there. Bless!
Hope this week has been better for you. Sorry not much exciting news from me. I’m trying to decide whether or not to go back to Stratford next weekend for the celebrations. My parents aren’t so interested though!
        Speak sooooon!

      • Hi Charley! How’s it going?
We’ve got a long weekend here because of ANZAC day so I’m off school until Tuesday. The extra day has made me feel more rested and relaxed, it’s great! I had a barbecue yesterday with some family friends and most of my dad’s brothers because our old friend had come for a quick trip back to Australia so we got to see him again and catch up with everyone, have some amazing food. Today’s been me sitting in bed watching Outlander. It’s based on a book and the show is fantastic. Now I really want to read it.
        How’s your weekend been?
Yeah I was so happy for my sister, she really did a lot of work so to get the reward was great for her and was awesome for me to be able to cheer her on. We don’t get compared too much, she just gets a lot more of the attention!
So the year 11 English exam is coming up? Is everyone all ready? Exciting and nerve wracking for you I imagine. Our exams are coming up in a few weeks too. Not looking forward to them at all.
Second in department? That’s wonderful! Congrats! Glad you’re really enjoying it. Must be a great feeling.
Haha don’t worry, I’m so clumsy too. Though I put it down to bad luck for the most part. Bread knives are a necessity though!
Your classroom sounds like such a great environment for the boys. Teachers are humans?? No! You must be mistaken ๐Ÿ˜‰
I’m feeling a little bit better. I think it’s down to the busyness. I get stressed easily and then that makes me unhappy. So I’m just taking it one day at a time and getting through all the work.
Aww that year 7 is exactly how I was like back in the day. I was desperate for Hogwarts. Hell, I still am!
So did you decide to go to Stratford this weekend? Any news?
Looking forward to your next reply!!

      • Hey!
I’m good thanks and you? Had a funny Saturday because I was at school today. It’s the English exam on Tuesday but school is shut Monday for the bank holiday. The boys seem ready. That’s the main thing. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
How are you? Did you enjoy your long weekend? I love BBQs! It’s like England has already had its summer (sunshine for two days but we also had snow this week!)
The rest of the weekend I plan to sleep and rest. I’m so tired it’s unbelievable. This second in department malarkey is very exhausting. I’ve been at school for 7:30 and leaving at 6:45 at night. Tooooo many hours.
So I’m really boring again because my life is consumed about work. But, I did get home for the Shakespeare parade. Did you see my post? (I mean that as in have you seen the pictures – not touting for likes!)
It was amazing. There were so many people there. I saw Ian McKellen sitting under a tree by the river. The fireworks were amazing as well. It was so moving and so special. I’m really thrilled I went back for it. There’s been loads documented about it as well. I went to church to see Shakespeare’s grave as well. It’s fascinating.
So, what’s new with you? All ok?!
        X

      • Hi Charley!
Happy Mother’s Day from Australia! I’m going pretty well thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
Hope all the exams went well this week. Let me know how you feel about it all.
Goodness it sounds like you’re working yourself to the bone. Has this week been better? Hopefully you’re more rested.
I saw your post on the Shakespeare parade. It’s looks spectacular. The fireworks are so pretty. We’re doing Macbeth in English right now which is very fitting for the celebrations. It’s a great play. You saw Ian McKellen? I’m so jealous!
Well given today’s a special day I’ll be spending it out. I’m writing this just after giving my mum breakfast in bed. we made pancakes for her and gave her our cards. It was so great. In a couple of hours, we’ll be going to my grandma’s house for afternoon tea and a catch-up with the family which will be awesome.
Other than that, not much has been happening here. Although, I found out recently that my family will be billeted a French exchange student in the June holidays. So exciting but kind of nerve-wracking. I feel like their English will be much better than my French!
Ooh and last weekend I went to see Matilda The Musical which was absolutely brilliant! I’ve been listening to the music all week. It’s one of my favourite childhood (but really I still love it) books ever. All the choreography and casting was amazing.
I played hockey on Saturday and I’m so unfit, I was puffing after 5 minutes and now my legs are so sore. Sorry, random.
Anything going/went on with you this week or weekend? Tell me everything!
        Talk soon!

      • Hi Liam!
Congratulations on coming a very close second at the Eurovision Song Contest!
How are you? Glad to hear you’re plodding along nicely.
I’m doing ok but very busy. I was at school again Saturday so I’m feeling tired. I’m doing a lot of hours as well. I’m getting there for 7:15ish am and leaving around 6:45pm. It’s too much but the boys appreciate it. They made me two cakes for the revision session yesterday which was genuinely so touching.
More big exams this week that impact my lessons but not me as its two of the three science exams.
Oh I’m so pleased you liked that post. I had the best time. I genuinely loved it.
Did your mum enjoy Mother’s Day? Her breakfast sounds amazing. I’m jealous!
When do you French friends arrive? Some of the students in my year 9 class had a French exchange student and it was quite difficult because they didn’t really want to speak in English. I hope they are a bit more chatty with you!
Ohhh Matilda is awesome. I love it! Also very jealous you got to see that.
I need to get preparing for the sponsored walk. Every year the whole school walk to and from the Humber Bridge in Hull. It’s about 12 miles in total. I’m dreading it. I’m so unfit. I mean, I spend all day on my feet but actually when I think about a distance like that I feel slightly overwhelmed. I also got asked if I’d like to join the running group, but I declined gracefully. So this brought me to new territory. Trainers. I’m a converse girl, always have and I probably always will be. But no I need trainers. I’ve gone all out and got some multicoloured ones so if I fall in a ditch they will know it’s me! I’m sure it will be fine. I’ll just have a chat and ignore the number of miles and take in the scenery. Shame it’s mainly by a duel carriageway. Hmmmm. It’s on May 27th so I’ll let you know how I get on.
Next weekend in Stratford it’s a food festival so I’m planning on going to that (all being well!) last weekend in Hull it was this thing called open gardens. So people in a little village called Hessle opened their gardens for everyone to see and you could mooch around and buy ice cream and plants. The head of my school was doing it so I went with the head of English. It was very nice. We had lovely weather as well which helped. One of the houses had a little train that went around the whole garden. It was amazing.
Two weeks left until half term and two English literature exams left. I can do this! (She says optimistically with one eye open)
Tell me all your news. I’ll be better at replying this week! X

      • Charley! My goodness it feels good to have a five minute break to be able to finally talk to you! How’s it all going? So much has probably happened while I’ve been AWOL.
I didn’t watch the Eurovision contest but when I heard how well we did I listened to our song, it was really good. How did you guys do?
My French student arrives towards to the end of June. I’ve heard stories similar to yours about some of them so I hope the girl we have is nice. I’m an anxious person and it’s been worrying me recently. Hopefully all runs smoothly.
How was your school walk? It sounds tiring. Hope you didn’t fall in a ditch! I’m so unfit too, I still huff and puff after 15 minutes of playing hockey.
Ooh a food festival is my kind of festival! Ice cream yuuuum! What goodies did you eat there? Sounds amazing.
How have the English exams gone? We just had ours and I’m not sure I did too well, my teacher’s terrible. I’m still studying all weekend long because I’ve still got five more to go so that’s why I’ve been so busy and not able to go on the internet and such too much. I left revision a bit too late this time ’round and had to frantically start preparing. Not fun. But they’ll be over soon. It’s kind of consumed me recently so I don’t have too much else interesting going on. Right now I’m trying to figure out some arguments for a French oral where we have to resolve an issue as a part of a role play with our teacher. It’s so hard and stressful. Otherwise, this weekend I have to clean about the house, bake something, memorise psychology notes and try not to go insane. All in a day’s work.
How are you? It’s been ages since I replied (sorry!) so catch me up on all the goings on. I hope I can reply quicker for next time. Hope to hear from you soon ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hello!
I’m really well thanks and you? How are the exams going?
Britain never comes off well at Eurovision, let’s just put it that way. But we did have two nice chaps singing. Nevermind.
Are you all ready for your French student? Don’t worry too much (I know that is easier said than done! But, she’s probably just as nervous)
I can’t believe we are already in June. Where is this year going? I was discussing with my friend about how that’s an old peoples thing to say, but it’s true!! My week off has flown by. I can’t believe it.
The sponsored walk absolutely broke me. 12 miles is a long way! The terrain wasn’t great either. There were parts that were really muddy and rocky but I did it! My legs were hurting so bad and my feet were swollen. Driving home was difficult and walking has been a bit of an issue. I finally managed to get shoes on on Tuesday. Happy days. The best part is my little school has raised about ยฃ4000 for charity.
The English exams were good. I managed to predict what would come up so the boys were very happy. Fingers crossed the results are good now.
I’m sorry to hear about your teacher. I’m sure you’ll do just fine. You’ll know it somewhere inside of you. Just remember time doesn’t stop. Things will come and they will go.
My week has been good. Done some exploring actually. Went to some lovely gardens and then I went on a massive book hunt in Hay-On-Wye. It’s on the Welsh border so it’s miles away but it was awesome.
Work soon though so desperately clinging onto the weekend!
Good luck for the rest of your exams. Let me know what’s been happening soon!
        Chin up ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hi again! I’m going really well, thanks! How about you?
The exams are finished now and I did pretty well in the end so I’m really happy. My parents just gave me a book voucher just as a small ‘well done’ and I’m so excited. They know me well!
We’re just getting ready for the student now, she arrives in two weeks. We have to buy a few things and set up the room but it’s all going well.
Oh me too! This year’s going way too quickly. I can’t believe it either.
I couldn’t think of many things worse then walking for 12 miles straight. How did you do it? haha. Hope your feet and legs have recovered a bit. Aw well done to your school on all the money, that’s a great effort for a smaller school. My house at school (I love saying that, it’s like I’m at Hogwarts) is doing a fundraiser soon where we have a ‘Boys’ Night In’ and we raise money through various activities and play games and have fun. Last year it was really good so I’m looking forward to it again.
Have you got any results back from your English classes? I’m sure they did amazingly with you as their teacher.
Ooh I love a good garden, that sounds lovely and a book hunt too! Sounds like a heap of fun.
We have a long weekend this weekend until Monday because of the Queen’s Birthday (which is kind of funny) so I’m very excited for the extra day off. Has work slowed down a bit for you after exams? Doing anything to relax?
I’m very much in relax mode right now. I’ve just been reading, watching youtube and eating.
Not much else has been happening really. It’s all just prep for our soon-to-be new French family member. We might be going to Sydney with her which is interesting. More for her benefit of seeing the ‘major’ city, I’m not a huge fan.
How’s everything going with you? Let me know what you’ve been doing!
        Talk soon!

      • Hey!
I’m so sorry, I thought I already replied to this ages ago! I’m fairly certain I did… ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข nevermind.
Congratulations on your results. That’s amazing. Also a book voucher is always good. I got one off a dodgy aunt for my birthday so that’s a bonus too.
I’m on my summer holidays now – week one of six weeks off. I’ve lost my car though because my dads has broken so he needs mine. It’s strange!! I can’t get anywhere haha.
I saw from your post that your exchange student had a great time. I’m so pleased! You were really worried about it so I’m glad it worked out for the best. What was she like? What sorts of things did you get up to?
No results yet – we have a big national results day here. I’ll be back in Hull for that to congratulate my boys. I have every faith that they would have done amazingly. Fingers crossed!!
Have you had your fundraiser evening yet? I hope you make lots of money for good causes.
It’s been a really hectic last half term. I genuinely don’t know how I survived if I’m honest. I know that sounds crazy but it was exhausting. We had OFSTED, prize day. Then all the exams went on and on. The year 11s left which was sad but really exciting at the same time. I got some nice presents too – not sure if you saw my post. I’m always wanting to know where they move onto and how they get on. I had my birthday on a school day as well for the first time. It was soooo strange. It felt weird. I was a bit sad because my family weren’t there. But, I went out for some amazing Greek food with my two closest friends at work. It was delicious. But it was during this time I disappeared a bit. Work was mental. In the last week we did have lots of fun though because there was the trip day. I went to a theme park which was awesome.
No other news really. Apologies again for not replying. I genuinely thought I did.
        X
